In the last 5 years of the Labour/Lib Dem government, from 2002 to 2007, only 371 homes for affordable rent were built.
In the last 5 years of the SNP Government, 2019 to 2024, 18 215 were built.
That’s an astonishing contrast, 49.1 times as many, revealing clearly that the SNP, on this as on so many matters, has replaced the Labour Party as the party of the people.

Covid – construction/building was held up. The houses were built in fewer years. There would have been 10,000 more built but for Covid.
SNP Scottish Gov committed to building, renovating 6,000 affordable houses a year. Builders building 17,000. 50;000+ people die in Scotland a year. Most after a long and happy life. 79+ years. More homes become available. Women outlive men on average 5 years, worldwide.

With all the so-called developments in language I wish we would consign the word “affordable” into a group where they could never be used independently of others. What does “affordable” actually mean? It is a convenient word to convey absolutely nothing. Like much Political speech, it is a shield to gloss over a true reply.
House prices rose by over 1140% between 1980 to 2020. Average wages rose by 64%. Even allowing for compounded inflation of 333% over the period, nothing explains the rise as materials and wages didn’t rise. By restricting house building the Private developers forced prices higher.
In England 250000 social homes were built. Johnson promised 200000 yet even Andrew Neill called him out as he built precisely zero.
The beneficiaries of this were the Financial Institutions providing the finance.
When I bought my home, “affordable” was 3 times your salary. Apparently in Scotland, the average salary is £33000 so “affordable” would be £99000.
How many family homes do you see for sale at £99000?
So let’s us campaign to have anyone who used the word “affordable” to define what they mean.
These homes will be “affordable for 10% of the population.”
Not quite the distraction from reality just using the word “affordable” on its own conveys.

the Labours might have built some more council houses, if they hadn’t returns all that dosh to the Westminster Treasury,
if only they’d have thought of something to spend it on.
