The Talking-up Scotland fund raiser primarily, finishing in 7 days, to enable the recruitment of some research assistance, in order to take pressure off me [74 in June and tiring] and hopefully to further improve the blog, has made a good start. My Google Alert today on ‘Nuclear cancer’ threw up this and other similar reports:

From First Post:

Have scientists found a way to survive a nuclear war?

I immediately thought of the risk we all face in Scotland thanks to the nuclear bases on the Clyde, as graphically illustrated by Nuclear Secrecy, above.

From my unqualified perspective this research looks to be a quantum leap.

An extract:

High doses of radiation– such as those from nuclear explosions, power plant accidents, or cancer radiotherapy– break down DNA and cause widespread cell death. In the case of a nuclear war, the fallout can be deadlier than the initial blast The world may have a way of increasing chances of survival in case of a nuclear war.

Chinese researchers have developed a treatment that significantly boosts survival rates in mice exposed to lethal levels of radiation. The discovery could one day make cancer treatments safer or improve survival odds in the event of nuclear war.

The study, led by Sun Yirong, an associate research fellow at the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, revealed that knocking out a protein known as Sting– or stimulator of interferon genes– increased the survival rate of irradiated mice from 11 per cent to 67 per centSouth China Morning Post reported.

  1. Get Trident out of Scotland A dangerous waste of monies. Dumped in Scotland in secret and without authority. A total waste of monies. Cuba crisis. Kennedy and MacMillan. Polaris. Fires squint. Under foreign control. A total waste of monies that could be better spent. A danger to Scotland.
