Ferguson Marine boss hits out at ‘ill-informed’ criticism from ‘spurious sources’ damaging the future of Clydeside shipbuilding

From Insider, yesterday:

Miller [CEO Ferguson Marine] was also critical of the extensive media coverage of the yard since it was taken into public ownership in 2019 and the discovery of major issues with the two ferries, claiming the “constant drip-feed of criticism” was “one of the most damaging things to the future of Ferguson Marine”. He claimed some reporting was “totally ill-informed and comes from spurious sources”, though he did not specify which.

Later in the committee, Miller appeared to compare press reporting of the saga to child abuse. “It’s like raising a child and abusing it, physically abusing it, and expecting him to turn into a well rounded man,” he said. “It’s very difficult to do.”

His assessment is spot on though I might have used a different metaphor at the end. I suppose it reveals just how wearing it must be for people actually producing this beautiful state-of-the art vessel.

Finally, ‘spurious’ sources? You can name them below.

  1. After what the Herald’s been up to in its efforts to block any future orders for Fergusons and in doing so, close down the yard, that the folk in Inverclyde should now treat the Herald in the same way as the folk in Liverpool treat the Sun Newspaper – don’t ever buy it and tell your friends and family to do the same.

  2. We shouldn’t forget the part played by the TV news in this. Their habit of interviewing – I don’t think hostile is too strong a word – politicians, knowing their contributions would be damaging.

Sort of like they are now doing with Jackie Baillie and the NHS.

  3. The Herald lying Clickbait. Lie after lie after lie. Most people do not buy it or read it. Most people get the News from the internet, reliable sites. Good with statistics. Like Talking up Scotland. Thanks John.

    1. Not most get their news from the internet or independent channels, sadly. Many older folk watch the English controlled BBC and STV etc, every day. Even in hospitals, they have BBC on the TV’s in wards and waiting rooms…so older folk are bombarded with lies and propaganda. It works or they wouldn’t deploy such dirty tactics.
