Thanks to AR for alerting me to this:
In the Independent today:
Dozens of hospitals are failing to declare critical incidents despite having out-of-control waiting times at A&E. New figures handed to The Independent have revealed that more than half of NHS trusts have longer A&E waiting times than those which have already been forced to take emergency measures to deal with overwhelming demand. More than a dozen hospitals announced incidents at the start of January, but the health secretary later revealed the true figure was 24.
At Blackpool Teaching Hospitals and Countess of Chester Hospital Trusts, 27.5 per cent and 26.6 per cent of waits took 12 hours or longer last month. In total, 69 trusts (57 per cent of all trusts) which have not declared a “critical incident” had a higher proportion of 12-hour waits than the Somerset Foundation Trust, which did announce it was taking emergency measures.
In Scotland, in November 2024, the percentage waiting more that 12 hours in full A&E [ED]:
- NHS Lanarkshire, where one Orange Tory councillor’s wife allegedly waited for 50 hours, 11.3%
- NHS Greater Glasgow, often maligned by Scottish Labour MPs, 5.6%!
- NHS Scotland, the average was 10.3%.
Footnote – Our unpaid researcher AR is in hospital for a serious procedure. Please spare a few moments, secular or faith-based, to wish him well.

Running down the English NHS the English government are preparing it for full privatisation. Scotland will not be able to keep the wolf from the door because as we all know, funding for the Scottish NHS is only matched (?) by the financing of the English NHS.
Did I see somewhere that the Scottish government however are investing a few millions of pounds in the SNHS?
Independence for Scotland is a must if we want to keep the SNHS in public hands, and not being sold off in line with England’s NHS.

Imagine if this was in Scotland BBC would be going ape.
Labour run Brighton council has written off a £51m debt after it loaned the cash to a company that has gone into administration. The number of financial scandals involving Labour run councils in England is staggering. If these were SNP run councils John Swinney would be hounded.

Thoughts go out to AR xx
Talking about hospitals the current Labour Welsh FM had previously blamed the Tories for the state of disrepair in Welsh hospitals.
She stated “the real issue was for years we have had no capital so it’s not about building more it’s about actually making sure we fix the hospitals we’ve got”
She refuses to take any accountability on behalf of the Labour Welsh government for the state of the Welsh NHS in her saying that they “haven’t had the money from the UK government (Tory) after 14 years of austerity”.
This would never be allowed to stand as a comment or statement by the Scottish FM for the Scottish NHS as Anas Sarwar often accuses the FM of always blaming others.
In fact in a piece that Sarwar wrote for the Daily Record in January 2025 he stated “When Scots face declining services, the SNP always have another person to blame”.
So you must assume then that if this is indeed what Anas Sarwar believes and so is his argument against the SNP , then he will also need to apply this same belief and argument against the Labour Welsh FM.
As she , as the Labour Welsh FM, is clearly not willing to take any responsibility , as the Labour Welsh FM , for the bad state of the Welsh NHS but instead she is choosing to “blame others”.
Which is now also what the new Labour UK government are doing as well, in blaming others, mostly the previous Tory UK government, for Labour as the new UK government now making so many cruel and poor political decisions.

The RCEM website gives a November figure of 5.8% waiting over 12 hours in Scotland. That’s a significant difference from the 10.3% that’s given here from Public Health Scotland. Any explanation?
