‘Free speech’ – Why ditching of Facebook factcheckers and Musk X ideology are good for the Scottish independence movement

I know, not the kind of guys you’d invite or who’d want to come round I suppose, but sometimes you can’t choose your friends. Musk and now Zuckerberg look like implementing full ‘free speech’ including the abandonment of factchecking. All right-thinking folk are up in arms, or are they?

Last night a friend and long-time SNP member told me his wife, not a member, had cancelled her Facebook account after hearing of the changes at Facebook.

Looking at these billionaires, I get it but I can’t regret it.

For years but increasingly so in recent months, Facebook has been removing any of my posts, all allowed at X and BlueSky though, which dare to suggest things are better in Scotland than in England, that Scottish Labour are flawed in any way or that the ‘Scottish’ media are employing fake news.

I estimate that those who only follow on Facebook were missing upwards of 50% of my posts.

So, dear reader, I’ve ‘married’ these scoundrels in this struggle against my huge next-door neighbour who has stolen from me on a regular basis.

Thoughts?

  1. That could be good, if that’s how it works out.

As one who has had numerous TUS shares deleted by FB I’ll reserve my judgement to see how it pans out.

The reason given by FB for my postings being deleted is that they are “spam”.

Will the announced end of “fact checking” change this?

    Let’s see.

  2. today I took the decision that fb was no longer something I wanted to be associated with. I reported a post that incited violence towards ethnic minorities and the reply from fb stated there was nothing wrong with it. Last straw for me. I’ve been on mastodon for over a year now and the difference is outstanding, perhaps something to do with the lack of billionaire fascists?

  3. I’m not so sure. I think propagandists, billionaires, unionists and capitalists have the resources to be able to use this more to THEIR advantage than you or us John.

Incidentally I appealed the fact to Facebook, that they had removed a link I posted to your blog yesterday (as spam). I’m awaiting a reply. I’l report back when I get it.

    1. You’ll doubtless be waiting a while – in my experience they rarely respond to review requests. I had a post removed last week on the grounds that I was “chasing likes” – I’ve no idea how they could possibly determine that. Annoyingly, when I requested a review there was nowhere to add the comment “If you object to people liking posts, why have you included a like button?”

Thanks to ‘bewarethejabberwok’, there is a way around having posts removed. Instead of posting links to TuS articles, simply copy & paste the article content – acknowledging the source at the top of the post. It works…

  4. You might have a long wait. I’ve reported several times on TuS posts shared by me being removed and have yet to receive any answer, let alone a satisfactory one.

  5. Clegg replaced with a right winger.

Musk & Zuckerberg keeping in with Trump. Trying to stop them being broken up for breaking anti competition Laws. Trump was banned from Twitter before.

Americans do not know how the UK political system works. People from the UK do not know how the US political system works. State Law controls US everyday life.
