From the Guardian today:
Caps on political donations are being considered by ministers as part of sweeping reforms to the UK electoral system. Labour is examining proposals to limit how much individuals and companies can donate to political parties as part of an effort to tighten the rules around money in UK politics. In a report to be published in the coming weeks, the Institute for Public Policy Research will recommend that ministers limit individual and corporate donations to political parties to £100,000 a year.
If implemented, the above move would be driven by Labour, Con and Lib Dem anxiety about the Reform Party being funded generously by right-wing actors such as Elon Musk who has reputedly offered them £79m.
However, the SNP and smaller parties such as the Greens, Alba and the SSP would welcome a £100k limit to prevent, for example, the Scottish Labour ads running on YouTube, pushing endlessly, their inarticulate simplistic but probably effective, ‘Change’ mantra.
According to the Electoral Commission, in the last three months only, before the UK 2024 General Election, Labour received £26 million, more even than the Cons at £16 million and Reform at £2.5 million. The SNP by contrast received only just over one quarter of a million.
Scottish Labour is, of course, not a party but a branch of UK Labour and so would have to share their £100k.
Maybe.

I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for Starmer to limit donations to political parties in the UK . He has already stolen the ”clothes” of the Tories so don’t be surprised if he moves to another extreme and attempts to out-reform The Reform Party and grabs their funding . After all , his mantra for the election in July was ”Change ” – he just didn’t specify what he was changing into !

I’m not sure what powers Scotland has over this but wouldn’t it be great if they required all Scottish election spending to come from Scottish sources? Better still if they confined it to party members!

SNP has still won outstanding victories.
Musk and Co have been; illegally gerrymandering. Facebook illegally selling people’s data. So they can be targeted by political Parties. Breaking electoral rules and lies. Polling companies censored and fined many times for breaking electoral rules. Breaking data protection rules and targeting voters illegally trying to swing elections, especially in tight margins.
