SNP aim to make Labour Lords bill what it should be if Sir Keir hadn’t sabotaged it

Just 4 of the 186 Labour Lords or FFF Traitors as most think of them.

The National, two days ago, had this strange headline:

SNP plot to sabotage Labour’s House of Lords bill

It’s as if the writer imagines them muttering darkly in the bowels of Westminster, like G Fawkes and his team in 1605.

When you read on, you do see:

SNP deputy leader Pete Wishart will lodge an amendment to see the Lords abolished entirely, but he will also lodge a further amendment to force peers to pay income tax on their parliamentary pay.

The tax-free pay — currently worth up to £361 per day — is payable to members of the House of Lords for any day they turn up in Parliament, even just to sign in to confirm their attendance.

‘Plot? Sabotage?’

More ‘improve?’

Isn’t Pete trying to restore to what we, including 90% of Labour voters, want?

From YouGov in February 2024:

Only 5% really want to keep them….and that’s in the UK.

What does Sir Keir have in mind? From the FT:

Labour is delaying plans to abolish the House of Lords as Britain’s main opposition party hones its policy platform ahead of the general election expected this year.

Sir Keir Starmer’s party has axed proposals to scrap the upper house in a first five-year parliament and would instead implement only limited reforms to the Lords.

What would Just Keir, from Cumnock, have said to wee Sir Keir?

  1. Sir Keir ( whose faither was a Toolmaker – did you know ? ): We have pledged to abolish The HoL .

Keir ( from Cumnock ): Good . I wanted to do that 100+ years ago .

Sir Keir : But we don’t want to do it just yet .

    Keir : Whit ?

Sir Keir : Like a second Scottish referendum – this is not the time !

Keir : Are you f*ckin’ kiddin’ me ?

Sir Keir : We have a £20B Black Hole to fill and we have to prioritise that – by robbing pensioners of their WFA ….Trying to abolish The HoL and the tax-free allowances of unelected Lords is not the Public’s priority . I myself will do all I can , when in The HoL in a few years , to abolish it just as my fellow Labour Peers have promised for the past 100 years . It’s a great Labour tradition to work earnestly to abolish the HoL …..

    1. Nae idea why we need made up conversations. Anyway but, Kidstarvers’ dad was a business owner, he owned a tool making business. In my book, that is not ‘working class’. Working class means being employed by someone or some organisation/business, not owning and running a business.

This is DEFINITELY the time to work fully at securing independence for Scotland, it has been ‘the time’ for a long long time in fact ever since the vote way back in the 1970s(?) where a plebiscite was held and the people of Scotland voted as a majority, for self determination, but which was wholly rejected by the English government.

There was never ‘the time’ that was good nor is good, or positive, for Scotland to be shackled to the country next door, it’s why the people rioted as the greedy lying troughers as Burn’s put it ‘a parcel of rogues’, signed away Scottish soverenghty in 1707.

  2. Ye see yon birkie, ca’d a lord,

Wha struts, an’ stares, an’ a’ that,

Tho’ hundreds worship at his word,

    He’s but a coof for a’ that,

For a’ that, an’ a’ that,

His ribband, star, an’ a’ that,

    The man o’ independent mind,

He looks an’ laughs at a’ that.

  3. There is to be a cut down on herity peers.

The House of Lords can only stop a Bill twice. Then it becomes Law.

A waste of time and money. Westminster bureaucracy costs £Billions. Scotland has to pay for it. The high paid Gov jobs and offices in the Mall.
