Union Flag badges to be put on all Labour direct investment projects in Scotland – third time lucky?

From the National today:

THE UK Government has announced plans for £1.4 billion of “direct investment” in Scotland over the next 10 years.

The details of the funding, which will bypass Holyrood, were laid out by Scottish Labour on Friday.

Many of the announcements are confirmations of “levelling up” funding, a project begun under the Tories. The UK Government replaced EU funding – which had been controlled by the Scottish Government pre-Brexit – with funding that they directly controlled.

Labour councillors are thought to be concerned that locals might think these are SNP projects and so, Billy ‘King’ Fullarton of Kilwinning has demanded that Union flag badges and plaques are proudly positioned on everything.

According to Billy, it’s been tried before. He’s right.

From the Daily Record in 2015:

UNION Jack flags will be displayed on roads, bridges and other publicly funded infrastructure projects throughout Scotland under new Government plans.

Plaques featuring the union flag alongside the message “Funded by UK Government” will “proudly adorn infrastructure investments from roads in Cornwall to broadband in Caithness”, ministers will announce on Monday.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander said it was important to “recognise the contribution of the UK taxpayer” – but Scottish nationalists last night branded the flag plan as a “silly gimmick”.

Again in 2020, from Politics Home:

Boris Johnson is to stamp the Union flag on major schemes in Scotland from next year — in a move dismissed as “posturing” by the SNP.

The Telegraph reports that the national symbol will sit alongside the Saltire on projects funded by the UK government, and will replace the European Union symbol that currently adorns Brussels-backed infrastructure schemes.

New Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross said the move — which comes ahead of Holyrood elections in 2021 — would show Britain was “unashamed of our investment in Scotland”.

Remember when kids used to chisel off VW symbols to wear round their necks? All the wee Rangers fans will quickly get those Union flags off.

  1. Wee Union Joke Murray in his Union Jock suit is the result of a hundred generations of “Scots not genetically programmed” (it’s called the Scottish Labour/Tory party)—-so he takes his orders from London and his pal Ruthie Von Bismark.

it’s beyond ironic that’s these idiots, who have railed against Scots “stealing” the Saltire for decades, now depend on a symbol that few in Scotland pay any heed to.
What next? The Duc du Embra’ leading a parade down Princes street to “celebrate” Scotlands loss of sovereignty?

Of course THAT would get BBC Hootsmon happy—maybe even get Jaikie the Craw back on the air with a “Special”.

  2. I think all Scots should be very grateful to our Westminster masters that they have successfully lumbered us with more debt on which we shall now have to pay interest at a higher rate so that once again GERS shows this additional costs Scotland’s notional deficit proves we are incapable of managing ourselves..

  3. Redundant weaponry, Trident, tax evasion, HS2, Hinkley Point. Brexit costing £Billions. Defence (attack) spending. Scotland lost EU funding. Scotland losing £Billions to Westminster poor, bad decisions.

  4. I am sure the SNP could come up with something clever, what about a butchers apron next to all the dreadful EngGovs’ ‘policies’ that are starving little children, freezing old folks, forcing more people into homelessness re higher interest rates with EngGovs’ sham economy wrecking budget as well as making more people unemployed etc etc.
A butchers apron should be plonked on any GERS docs because that massive ruse needs to be made very clear to the people of Scotland for a start.
Nevermind praising the LabCons’ budget (FM, John Swinney) or accepting their plans for nuclear power in Scotland, call the EngGov out for the liars and cons that they are.
SNP are gonna have to be very clever in the run up to the election, because so many are easily taken in by BritNat propaganda. :-/

  5. When will Scots realise that Labour is ‘giving’ us nothing. That this British party is investing nothing in Scotland. They are merely doing the same as every UK Government does, returning part of our own revenue to us and expecting grateful thanks for it. We badly need to cut out this thieving, lying middle man.

  6. Didn’t I read that Scotland’s ‘ block grant ‘ has been reduced by about £1.6 billion this year, I’m not sure that robbing Scots to pay Scots can be classed as a union dividend.

    Golfnut.
