NHS Factcheck – Why Scots should not be put off seeking help as it’s not ‘broken.’

By Professor John Robertson OBA

BBC UK have this today:

There is growing unease within the NHS about the government’s “broken” messaging, the BBC has learned. Senior sources in the health service have told the BBC they believe some of the claims have gone too far – and may result in patients being put off seeking help and causing lasting damage to staff morale.

I agree and it’s really important that Scottish viewers and readers are not deluded into things are as bad here.

Why not?

It’s endless. Report after report, evidence after evidence, that while there are pressures and delays, NHS Scotland is in relatively good health and not ‘broken’.

  1. The S.N.H.S is certainly not broken, and I speak from my wife and I personal experience. And not only the Health Service. The care sector is functioning very well, again from my experiences. My wife suffers from Later Stage Dementia, and frankly the services available to care for her have amazed me, with a range I never knew existed. That, coupled with G.P and hospital care have been first class, and all the staff do a great job of work.

    1. I have had type 2 diabetes for 23 years. I have had excellent support and advice from my GP surgery during that period. Today, I had an interim appointment with the nurse because my medication had been adjusted 3 months ago and she wanted to evaluate its effect. I was able to walk into our local health centre and arrange a blood test at short notice. The results were sent to the GP the following day. I had a call from the receptionist and an appointment was made with the nurse to review the results. The adjustment to the medication had been effective.

While waiting for the nurse to see me, I was seated lose to the receptionist, who dealt politely, considerately and efficiently with a stream of phone calls. Many of those requiring appointments had these organised for today and others had arrangements made for the doctor to telephone this afternoon. Patients came in to collect prescriptions.

Contrast this with the horror stories which our media and opposition policies and the Union Jack waving chair of BMA Scotland regularly serve up.

  2. Abandon hope all ye…

Propaganda ,Propaganda , Propaganda ! The Scottish Labour ( sic ) and Scottish (sic ) Media message about NOT just the Scottish NHS , but ALL things Scottish . According to them there has never been such a dire , incompetent , useless excuse for a country .

You could say we were ”Too Wee , Too Poor and Too Stupid ” to survive as an Independent nation – the only such country in the History of the World !
