Starmer’s heartless, immoral, reliance on the lack of a legal need for an impact assessment of removing winter fuel allowance

Tweet from Kate McCann Times radio Political Editor on 12 September.

“NEW: Keir Starmer confirmed to me that there is no impact assessment of removing winter fuel allowance from all pensioners. Pushed on why, he said there is no legal need for one adding: “I know you think there’s a report on my desk but there isn’t one”.

“No legal need for one” ?

Yes but what about the moral need for one ?

George Eaton tweeted yesterday.

“The DWP has just published its Equality Analysis of winter fuel payment cuts (yes, on Friday night). Around 71% of pensioners with a disability and 83% of the over-80s will lose the benefit”

It seems that the “Change” Labour promised is one that is open to interpretation and so far I am interpreting it as only being the type of “Change” that has meant that Labour, as the new UK government, will actually be far worse and far crueller than the Tories were as the UK government.

Labour conned those who voted for them into believing “Change” with them was a “Change” for the better.

Buyers remorse then is reflected in polls after the GE for many .

Where as we on here, and others too, were far far far more discerning and we all knew exactly what we would get if we made the mistake of voting for Labour in the GE and voila Labour has proven us to be right yet again.

Sarwar can hide all he wants and the BBC in Scotland can do their best to protect him but the reality is Labour UK cannot continue to use the same excuse of blaming the previous Tory government for all of the (bad) decisions they make , as the new UK government, all the way up to the 2026 Scottish elections.

However the SNP cannot assume that that alone will save them from Labour in 2026 as they need to “Change” especially in their dealings with the hostile media and opposition parties.

After all it has always been a case of, for the SNP, them being ‘Damned if they do and damned if they don’t’ so why not just be far far more assertive , far far less defensive and take a far far more proactive position to offset the constant political and media opposition they face in respect to independence their, the SNP’s, raison d’etre as a political party.

As independence needs to always be at the forefront for them as a political party and they must now fight every election with independence as main policy.

Look how many MP’s they , the SNP, lost in the recent GE so what then have they, the SNP, got to lose by going for it (big time) as the most prominent factor in every election.

I mean who the Hell really wants Labour as the new government in Scotland in 2026?

Their Britain would then truly be a one party state (a Labour one) and that would mean they, Labour, could do whatever the Hell they liked right up to just before the next GE when, like the Tories, they would then ease off until they won again.

A familiar pattern that we saw with the Tories in power and so a pattern that Scotland needs to try and break (away from ) more so with Labour now in charge.

  1. The recent National Television Awards ceremony on ITV that were broadcast after the recent UK GE .

According to the BBC on their ‘Culture’ page on the 12 September (may be missed as an article if you , as a reader, never go into this particular section or are unaware that it exists on their website).

“Jo Hamilton was one of a group of real sub-postmasters who joined the stars of Mr Bates vs the Post Office on stage as they picked up three prizes at the National Television Awards on Wednesday”.

“She said ,when addressing the audience at the O2 arena in London and viewers watching on ITV, that she was disappointed by a lack of progress with payouts since Labour came to power“.

“What I’d like you to know is I went to Westminster a couple of weeks back and saw the new minister,” she said. “And trust me, nothing has changed.”

“As boos rose from the celebrity crowd – aimed at those she was referring to in power – she added: “It’s true, and almost all of these people behind me haven’t been paid yet.”

“Mrs Hamilton said more than 300 of the 555 workers who won a landmark civil case against the Post Office in 2019 had still not yet received full compensation, including campaign leader Sir Alan Bates. She added: “They’ve offered him 30% of his claim.”

So I say on this blog let’s be honest here and forget the excuses that Labour are currently using as the main reason as to why they are supposedly, as the new UK government, being prevented from implementing any significant and distinctive “Real Changes” from the previous Tory UK government that they , Labour, promised would be the case in their UK GE campaign.

(As in they, Labour, are blaming it all on the previous Tory UK Govt)

As if you, as politicians, make a promise and pledge that a vote for you is a vote for “Real Change” and then you fail to deliver that “Real Change” after you have won.

Then , in the future, if there is indeed any justice and logical thinking applied by voters that results in a UK wide backlash by those UK voters ,well we then could ,and I say , should witness, the Labour party never ever winning any election anywhere ever again in the UK but especially never winning anywhere within Scotland.

In fact what is really really really worse is that not only are Labour not providing any (positive) “Real Change” in their UK as a UK government as they promised but they, as a UK government, are also deciding to punish the same people that the Tories also always chose to punish and target in their austerity measures as a former UK government.

While also, just like the previous Tory UK government, Labour are also ensuring that those in the UK who are rich are not going to be negatively impacted or targeted by Labour, as the new UK government , in them, Labour, deciding to adopt alternate measures to fill the so called ‘Black hole’ in them taxing the very wealthy much much more. (Which as a measure would reap far more from those more able to give more)

Labour and the Tory party (and indeed Reform UK party too) all pigs in a poke or combined they are cheeks of the same proverbial you know what !

    1. ” According to the BBC on their ‘Culture’ page on the 12 September (may be missed as an article if you , as a reader, never go into this particular section or are unaware that it exists on their website) ” – or any beyond the UK because it doesn’t ‘exist’.

There is no ” ‘Culture’ page ” visible from the BBC beyond the UK, the propagandist’s dream finally has become reality, and if you wonder where this scam came from, look no further than Israel… Even in Israel they have cottoned on to the manipulation in play and it will not end well… Brits are a bit slower to twig…

  2. Government ministers are protected against any criminal or civil action if there policy decisions are supported by a parliamentary vote. Starmer and his ministers can do whatever they want because they are covered by the so called English principle ‘ not law ‘ of parliamentary sovereignty. That principle is not recognised in Scotland.
