In May 2024, BBC Scotland connected a single death in a mental health institution to the minister above and included in the report:
The Scottish government said the commission’s recommendations would be “fully implemented” at the unit, which was anonymised in the report. (para 4)
and at the end:
The Scottish government’s Mental Wellbeing minister Maree Todd said she extended her “heartfelt sympathies” to the family of Mrs F. She added: “The relevant health and social care services have been issued with specific recommendations and learning points and we expect these to be fully implemented.” https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c25rgzl55edo
Yesterday BBC Essex had:
The chairwoman of an inquiry into more than 2,000 mental health-related deaths has said “we may never know” the true number of people who died. The Lampard Inquiry has got under way, examining deaths at NHS-run children and adult inpatient units in Essex between 2000 and 2023.
Baroness Lampard, who is leading proceedings, said the inquiry was “of the gravest concern and significance”. She warned the number of deaths was expected to be “significantly in excess” of the 2,000 figure previously reported. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c15gjpde7q4o
The UK Government is not approached for comment and no minister is photographed.
BBC Scotland carefully do not blame the Scottish Government directly but they always connect them with the story, contact them for comment and include a photo of the minister looking worried.
It’s insidious. Ask someone in the street who is to blame for blame for problems in a Scottish hospital and see if they identify the board before the Scottish Government.
2 000 deaths? Maybe even more, in one area? Imagine the media coverage in Scotland.

They must have a photo bank of SNP figures looking troubled, worried, worn down, smirking, angry etc along with unflattering angles, dodgy pairings and wardrobe mistakes. It’s quite an odd thing to think about, this deliberate choice of images from the multitude available, I think it could make a great media studies project. Do you think they have a similar stash of labour photos saved up for a rainy day?

A Sarwar quote I suggest best examples it with ” What about Millie Main ” – A propaganda campaign going back to the dishon Sarah Smith’s time as ‘imperial empress’, and it hasn’t really let up since ‘El Suito’ took over the reign.
Almost everyone across the UK would recognise Millie’s infectious smiling face due to the publicity it was afforded, but show them the faces of the thousands of of other kids who died in similar circumstances and the majority would recognise not a one…
Psy-ops were meant to be conducted against the enemy as a tool of warfare, when it is used against our own for political purposes, there is a huge problem in the UK. We have become the enemy…

Then why the hell is the SNP Government highlighting the double-standards?
They MUST challenge this biased reporting and shout it from the rooftops to the Scottish population, AND THEY ARE NOT? WHY?
The current SNP Hierarchy scratch their arses and wonder why the Party is haemorrhaging support, right left and centre. No fight, no statements denouncing the criminally corrupt fascist UK Government(s) – Independence is on a slippery slope to never, never land unless the SNP grow a set of balls and physically show the electorate some fire in-their bellies to stand up to the corruption.

Anonymous – I agree it is frustrating to feel the SNP are just rolling over and taking every brickbat that comes their way. Not sure that lambasting them for this is the best way to make them want to fight back though. Maybe if some of us (who want indy, not necessarily SNP supporters) started helping out – writing complaints, speaking up on social media, responding to others – we might show that we feel they are being wronged and are worth fighting for?
On a personal note I think it would also be helpful if we used names and were accountable for what we write. I know John screens responses to prevent pile-ons from hostile sources so it is as safe a place to comment as anywhere can be
and slightly off topic, check out James Kelly’s latest post on his Scotgoespop blog. He is standing up to his party and is not afraid to speak up when he feels things are wrong, standing up to power and trying to change things despite the flak he will surely get. I don’t agree with him on many things but I do think he should get credit for trying to make a change

As soon as l start to compare data like this l am accused of whit abootery. The UK centric media in Scotland run from London to my recollection have never or very seldom compare figures . When you consider the anti Independance propaganda from the MSM being produced from London our campaign for independance is up against an electrified steel wall never mind a fence. The SNP need a ruthless streak in reporting to media ignorance especially TV like BBC QT.
