Headlines today BBC Website:
“Sir Keir Starmer is set to warn that “things will get worse” in the UK before they get better”.
Sorry what ?
So were Labour , in the GE campaign , perhaps being a tad presumptuous in them promoting to us the public ,that with them the Labour party as the next UK government, we the public, would all see a “Change”.
(From what was assumed to be a “Change” from the previous Tory UK government who imposed austerity measures upon us all. Same ones apparently that Labour are also now intending to impose upon us too).
“In a speech on Tuesday, the prime minister is likely to say there are no quick fixes to remedy what he will call the “rubble and ruin” left by the Conservatives”.
Sorry what ?
Was this UK Tory financial mess not recently disputed as being known by Labour regarding the true financial UK position (Financial Black hole) that Labour were made fully aware of pre and during the recent GE campaign .
In that the ‘rubble and ruin” left by the Tory party aka the “financial black hole” that existed was said to be something that Labour knew all about prior and during the GE campaign.
So for them, Labour & Starmer, to promote back then that Labour would implement “Change” when they had information that they knew would prevent much “Change” happening for the public in the UK. Well that is shocking.
(Indeed I recall Starmer saying many things would be done immediately, would be “done on the first day after winning the GE” and so would be “quickly” fixed he said ) was that then really more of a LIE than a presumption by him and them, Labour.
“He will also continue to argue that the last government concealed the true state of the public finances”
Sorry what ?
See above paragraphs .
This is Labour justifying why they will not be a “Change” to the previous Tory government and it is also a way that they, Labour, can , like the previous Tory government, take away from the poor while imposing a minimum, if any, damage to the more wealthy within the UK.
Poor families and pensioners are those who, at first , must pay the penalty under Labour while the wealthy whose money allows them to donate to political parties (like Labour) then sees their donations pay off, in that they do not see any financial penalty imposed upon them via the political party that they donated to (Labour party) who have now become the UK government.
“Cabinet Office minister Pat McFadden said he thought the PM would be showing “refreshing candour” with the public in the speech” – in him saying “we will get there, but it will take time”.
Sorry what ?
That is not what we the public were promised by Keir Starmer during the GE campaign when he, Starmer, pretended that he was showing “candour” in his many pledges to the public that promised “Change” (quick “Change” not “Change” over time) . Also Pat McFadden would compliment (make excuses for) Keir Starmer, as he, Starmer, is Pat McFadden’s party leader !
What say Anas Sarwar who told John Swinney to “Read my lips no austerity under Labour”
Was that also presumptuous, misleading or a blatant lie ?
I know what my guess would be.

I really hope the Labour government has a contingency plan to save lives this winter.
The abolition of the universal Winter Fuel Payment along with the increase in energy prices from the 1st October, is equivalent to a 25% increase in energy prices!
https://www.endfuelpoverty.org.uk/ministers-winter-fuel-payment-plans-hit-by-chaos/
“Almost 900,000 pensioners need to apply for the Pension Credit if they want the payments designed to keep them warm this winter, but the official helpline claims that they may not have their application processed in time.”

Think I read somewhere that the average UK electricity bill was going to rise to ca 1,700 quid a year… If that’s the average, Scots are going to be hammered even more because of a stupid energy map dreamed up 30 odd years ago for the privatised energy market, yet which landscape has totally changed…
My annual leccy is under 300 and about the same for gas… Frightening what these greedy malevolent bar-stewards are getting away with, and the politicians feign they have no choice…

Things could only get worse under Labour because of their negative policies and lies. Things could be better if Labour did not tell blatant lies. Attacking the old, the young and the vulnerable. Wasting Scottish revenues and resources.
Scotland in surplus in fuel and energy, and nearer the source, but pays more.
Brexit losing £Billions. Tax evasion losing £Billions. Illegal wars and redundant weaponry losing £Billions. Trident and nuclear losing £Billions. HS2 and Hickley Point etc losing £Billions. Increasing public sector wages will increase tax. Making the better off, better off.
Starving pensioners and children. Labour losing support.

I had friends jumping into the labour propaganda pot before the election,I warned them not to vote for this Tory Tribute . They so regret the descision they made now and will return to SNP at the next Holyrood election.

I agree with you but even returning to the SNP at Holyrood what will that do Lab are in power for five years and hold all the strings,do we declare UDI take up arms I don’t know even if we do have a referendum will most be taken in by MSM telling lies again as they did before. From now on the SNP and all those who want Independence must really start proving we would be better off on our on unshackled from the Westminster corruption that exists who ever is in power.
Change yes, Independence

It never ceases to amaze me how many gullible Scots still fall for the same crap from both Tory and Labour believing that somehow a change in Westminster is going to affect their wellbeing for the better. I seem to remember the same nonsense from David Cameron back in 2010 after wee Gordie/Alistair & co crashed the economy to pave the way for a decade of ‘necessary’austerity measures (as it turned out just for the many not the few of course.
When are they going to wake up to the fact that in 300+ years of this odious Union Westminster has never legislated for anything that benefitted Scots or Scotland alone and this shower of Red Tories is no different. As usual Scots are once again going to feel the brunt.
ONLY INDEPENDENCE IS GOING TO BRING THAT CHANGE.

Seen this today on Johnny Dundee’s Twitter a/c (a Pro Indy account):
“A period of austerity is deemed necessary by the Labour UK Govt before things can ‘get better’, but any suggestion that an indy Scotland may endure any kind of austerity before its economy improves, is deemed outrageously naïve & dangerous by the same Labour politicians”
This actually got me thinking how very true that is but not just for a future Indy Scotland but that same reaction happens now for our devolved government in Scotland via Labour politicians and others here, including the media, within Scotland.
So when any UK government declares that times are hard and finances are limited so they, as a so called ‘responsible’ UK government (as in a supposed ‘fiscally responsible UK government’) ,then announce that they, as a UK government, must tighten their belts and so we, the public, are also expected to do this too.
We the public , are then asked and so expected to accept this as something that we should consider as being fair , responsible and also logical as you cannot spend money that you do not have or God forbid increase the debt the country has accumulated via the UK government Sacre Bleu !
So cuts are currently being made by the Labour UK government and some of the public must suffer (in silence it seems).
Currently those who must suffer under this new Labour UK government are some poorer families and also some pensioners who, as pensioners, are not recipients of any benefits so they may , as pensioners , only have their state pension to live on (as they have no personal pension(s) or savings to supplement their income).
The above suffering is via keeping the Two child cap that will impact some poorer families and also with some pensioners , who are not on benefits , them losing their Winter Fuel allowance.
However if the SNP, as the current Scottish government , were to even hint at their budget (finances) being tight and that some things may be unable to be implemented or some things may either lose funding/see a decreased funding then that unleashes the wrath of both the opposition parties and also the media in Scotland.
Recently the anger that was unleashed by many within the Creative Arts in Scotland where they blamed the Scottish government for lost funding via Creative Scotland was typical , as a reaction, of what always happens here in Scotland.
Anas Sarwar was , yet again, seen as trying to take advantage of this situation by him being photographed with Lisa Nandy in Scotland where she stated that her Labour UK government “Will foster Scottish creative talent”.
( Just not “foster” it , as a Labour UK government, by currently funding it via them ,as the Labour UK government, awarding additional funding in their budget allocation to our Scottish government to pay for that same Creative Arts sector aka “creative talent” to be “fostered here in Scotland”).
Anas Sarwar tweeted on 21 August “Scotland’s arts and culture sector is globally renowned, yet there remains huge untapped potential. It was a pleasure joining UK Culture Secretary @lisanandy to discuss with industry leaders how we can promote Brand Scotland to maximise this opportunity for growth”
( What by the Labour UK government bypassing the Scottish government for funding in them allocating money directly to their Labour Scottish SOS for him to pass onto Scottish local authorities !).
The same Scottish government that is a devolved government.
The same devolved government who we the public in Scotland are supposed to think that they, as a devolved government, have an unlimited access to money to finance everything and everyone in Scotland.
The same Scotland… that has a UK government representative who, as I stated above, as the so called Scottish SOS , sees his own UK government decided to hand him £150 million for him to then decide where, what and who this money would be allocated to for some of the local authorities in Scotland.
(Labour ones by any chance ?).
Where with the Labour UK government doing this they are deciding to bypass our Scottish government .
Which clearly , as an action, contravenes devolution.
So no “Change” there then from what the previous Tory government were also considering doing in bypassing our Scottish government , via funding (and powers), and so also disrespecting and contravening devolution in Scotland.
Labour as the new UK government will announce ‘hard times are ahead’ for their UK but we will witness that which will be akin to Armageddon, as a reaction, if our Scottish government were to also announce the same thing.
How and why is that considered to be fair and appropriate ?
It’s not.
However that is the state of play we ,and our government , are always subjected to.
“Do as I say not as I do”.
Scotland as an independent country and also as a resource rich country could do so so much better than the constant austerity we have to live under as being part of the UK.
The same UK that expects us to support it with both the potential and capacity of resources that we have in Scotland that they, as the UK government, seeks to exploit and use for their whole UK while declaring that we , Scotland, are too poor, too wee and too stupid to be independent from them the UK.
Is that , or anything happening now, right ? (For us in Scotland in their UK).
That would be a NO.
So come the hour and come time best that we all must decide to vote YES.

Just read this tweet on David Osland’s Twitter a/c:
“The cost of winter fuel payments is £3bn a year. The profits of the big four gas supply giants in 2023 was £65bn. Just wondering if any awfully clever economists out there can see any possible solutions to this conundrum”?
Well that tweet puts things into perspective does it not !
The new Starmer led Labour UK government clearly are being far more supportive of those with money rather than them being , as a Labour UK government, supportive of us the general public .
Who, as the general public within the UK , are considered as those who are very much the many via population in the UK.
But whom Labour assume that they, as a UK government, can ignore as they, Labour, prefer instead to pander to the wealthy (many of whom have donated to Labour as a political party).
(Yet , as the many within the UK, we, the public, are all just expected to suffer via their, Labour UK government cuts, so that those others , as in the wealthy companies and corporations, can still enjoy keeping their vast profits at our expense courtesy of Labour).
So yet another example that shows us , the public , that a Labour UK government , when compared to the previous Tory UK government , offer us the public absolutely NO CHANGE in both their behaviour or their (lack of) actions.
Did we on this site and also others on social media who support independence (as did those who still support Jeremy Corbyn) not predict that this is how it would play out when Labour came to power in the UK for all us non wealthy people aka the general public.
That is when we were governed under a Sir Keir Starmer ‘new’ Blue Labour led UK government !!!!
That would be a YES .

While agreeing with all the comments, exactly what can we do about the situation. Oh aye, the polls may show a lead for Independence, but how exactly are we going to achieve our aim? By what method are is it possible? Maybe it’s my age, but having campaigned/canvassed and leafleted in the lead up to 2014, I was confident we would win, and we did that very thing in my constituency, but of course, the majority of Scots who voted, voted No. Honestly, I don’t see any Westminster Government giving us to opportunity again, because, quite simply they know they will lose, and with it, most of Scotland’s riches. So I ask again, how do we achieve our aim?

I agree 100% with what you say Alex.
I also ask how much longer must we or can we pander to those in Scotland, who as yet, are still to be convinced upon the argument for Scottish independence.
I witness, on the news, many people in other countries throughout the world protest for a lot less than the sh*t we here in Scotland have had to endure as being a part of the UK.
Where we see our country exploited for it’s resources while we also witness that Scotland, as a country within the UK, is regarded and treated as the poor relation within the UK.
Apparently subsidised by who ?
The UK or England ?
Well we, Scotland, are a part of the UK to which we contribute loads , so my guess is that they really mean England subsidises us. (not for bleedin electricity though it appears or for our many other Scottish assets too).
Honestly what holds us back from gaining independence are those people in Scotland, who for whatever reason, refuse to support and vote for either any Indy parties in elections or independence itself. (and that is who and what our (pro UK) opposition uses as an excuse for refusing us another Indy Referendum as in there is no huge majority for independence).
That is our obstacle that stops independence and no matter what evidence is produced for them, the doubters in Scotland, even them enduring and suffering the many hardships they encounter as a UK citizen still they do not and will not budge.
Lazy, or selfish or unenlightened I do not know.
But if we as a people , via a clear huge majority , were out on the streets en masse , demanding another Indy Referendum, then it would be very very hard, in the eyes of the whole world via international media coverage, for them , the British government to deny us one.
That is the rub I think.

Vote the unionists out to get Independence. A higher turnout. More people who support Independence need to vote and not to vote for unionist Parties.
UN principles support self governance and self determination when people vote for it. The power is in the people’s hands. Use it.
