From official figures in December 2023:
The average daily prison population in 2022-23 was 7,426. This is a small decrease of 1% from the previous year (7,506), indicating broad stability in average daily population levels across the most recent reporting years.1
Thanks to no riots recently, Scotland has had no surge in demand for prison places. The current capacity is 7 906.2
In the Guardian today:
The justice secretary, Shabana Mahmood, announced plans to cut the proportion of the sentence inmates must serve behind bars from 50% to 40%. The temporary move – which does not apply to those convicted of sex offences, terrorism, domestic abuse or some violent offences – is expected to result in 5,500 offenders being released in September and October.3
So ‘some’ violent offenders will be released early.

Jailing people for three years for punishing someone. Or rioting or throwing objects. They will end up letting them out early. 15 months for a post on the internet. Starmer & Co out of their depth. People in prison for stealing a mobile phone years ago. Indefinite sentences The highest prison population in the EU.
People pushed to the limit for years. Totally unequal and unfair. The corruption of the Westminster Gov. Starving their mothers that gave them birth. Impoverished children. Labour corruption going on and on. Uncaring Westminster Gov.
