A lesson for any tempted to vote Labour in Holyrood 2026 – Researchers reveal the policy supported by Scottish Labour causes children to go hungry

Labour’s Westminster House Jock and North British branches celebrate English Labour’s election victory under their shared flag, before going on to vote to keep the Dead Conservative’s two-child benefit cap, shown by the IFS to increase child poverty levels.

Not only has the Institute for Fiscal Studies proved that the two-child benefit cap is the main cause of child poverty in the UK but today, we read in the Guardian:

Families hit by the two-child benefit cap are much more likely to go hungry, skip meals or be unable to afford to eat healthily, according to new data which shows about one in four low-income families with three or more children are suffering food insecurity.

The Food Foundation thinktank called on the government to scrap the two-child limit as part of a package of measures that it argued would cut child poverty and reduce hunger.

Overall, 14% of UK households – comprising 7.2 million adults and 2.7 million children – experienced food insecurity last month, meaning they could not afford food, skipped meals or did not eat for a whole day, the foundation’s latest survey found.

The findings were released as the government suspended the whip from seven Labour MPs who voted for a Scottish National party amendment to the king’s speech on Tuesday which called on the government to scrap the two-child benefit limit.

So, roughly, that’s 720 000 adults and 270 000 children in Scotland going hungry because of a policy that THE Labour Party supports and that the Scottish Labour branch will not change, no matter how well BBC Scotland try to help them seem like they might.

Vote Labour in the Holyrood election 2026 – Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me?

  1. Ah but has BBC Scotland not found that more Scots are in favour and anyway Jackie Baillie said that it would be got rid of before the next Scottish elections.

Starmer will scrap the two child cap before the 2026 Holyrood election. Jackie Baillie let the cat out of the bag last year. It’s why BBC Scotland is falsely claiming that Anas Sarwar is fighting to have it scrapped right now. It’s to portray him as a hero to help him in 2026.

  3. Putting aside politics for a moment I am at a loss to understand why this is not top of Labour’s or for that matter any Government’s priority list. Not only lifting kids and families out of poverty but surely any socioeconomics students would conclude that it also removes potential criminal activity often associated with poverty, detrimental health outcomes and as an encouragememnt to reduce the need on immigration especially in the face of an ever increasing elderly population and future public services. To me it is a no brainer.
