There are renewed calls for the city to work toward building a bridge to the Toronto Islands following a weekend which saw lengthy line-ups to access Toronto’s aging ferry fleet. Toronto Island Ferries has 7 vessels active – 89, 85, 83, 61, 60, 18 and 15 years-old an average age of 59 years.
In the less-affluent West of Scotland, CalMac has 34 vessels active, with the oldest at 48 and with an average age of just 24 years.
CalMac ran more than 500 sailings at 99.2% on Saturday past, cancelling only 4 of the 62 Dunoon – Gourock sailings. On Sunday, yesterday, it was 96.8%.
