In the Guardian today, their Education editor daft enough to to use a Glasgow Uni shot, writes:
UK universities face financial turmoil as figures from the Home Office show plunging numbers of international students applying for courses starting in the next academic year.
Applications for sponsored study visas have fallen by 40%, suggesting the visa restrictions applied by the previous government continue to hamper recruitment. The Home Office received 28,200 applications last month, compared with 38,900 in June 2023.
But three days ago, BBC Scotland had:
Net migration to Scotland more than doubled in the year between 2021 and 2022 – up to the highest level in a decade – newly-released figures show.
In the year to June 2022, net migration into Scotland was 48,800, compared with 22,200 the previous year.
The National Records of Scotland, which published the figures, said the rise was due to higher levels of international migration to cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh.
“This increase is likely to be the result of a substantial rise in the number of international students studying at universities in Scotland” said Esther Roughsedge, NRS head of population and migration statistics.
Why might international students be turning away from rUK but not Scotland?
This kind of thing from as far back as 2022:
BANNING international students from universities is “absolutely stupid”, Scotland’s Deputy First Minister has said.
It emerged on Friday morning that Rishi Sunak could restrict admissions to top universities in a bid to further curb immigration numbers.
An adviser on immigration policy has warned that the bid could force universities into bankruptcy if the UK Government goes through with the policy.
John Swinney, acting finance secretary, said that the plan was “foolish” and said it would undoubtedly have an impact on universities.
He said: “These proposals on overseas students are absolutely stupid. They will set back our Universities and undermine research activity.
“Is there no end to how foolish this U.K. Government is prepared to be?”
And this from June 2024:
Keir Starmer pledges to slash ‘sky-high’ migration numbers under a Labour government

Scotlands biggest immigration problem is freeloading phucking English retiring here to sponge off the better services our higher taxes are paying for.

The Tories cut education £6Billion a year. £60Billion. The Scottish Gov had to mitigate the cuts. No increase fees and loans for students.
Scotland has one of the best education systems in the world. 30% of students go from school, 25% mature students, foreign and EU students. The highest number of universities pro rata. 15. Colleges. Life long learning. Apprenticeships. A positive destination for school leavers.
Labour would increase mean testing and bring higher costs for students in Scotland. Less would be able to go to university. QCut prescription and bus passes. No child payments to eradicate child poverty.

Scotland is indeed a better society today than it was in 1974; better than it was in 1984; better than 1994 and better that 2004. What is the difference you might ask? Anyone with more than three brain cells can answer the question correctly.
However, MSM chip, chip, chipping away at Scotland with essempee bad stories for the last ten years or so has done its job and done it well — hats off to them. Far too many Scots who said they would never listen to that stuff again obviously never stopped listening to it. Fool me once and all that, but fool me hunners of times…?
No too wee, no too poor, too stupit? Dear god, please… I hope not.
