Scots Unison leader betrays her members, who benefit most from the SNP’s progressive policies, for political gain

Christine McAnea, UK Labour Party member and current General Secretary of UNISON, has just written to members to say:

A new dawn for public services – Investing in public services is more than just a budgetary choice; it’s a moral duty. High-quality public services are the foundation of a fair and just society. With Labour in charge, we have the chance to build a more equitable and prosperous future for everyone in the UK.

McAnea, former Communist Party Member, earns £119,513 with benefits of £12,756, plus pension contributions and employer’s national insurance contributions that are not publicly available.

With Labour in government at Westminster or, worse, at Holyrood in two years time, Unison members will neither benefit from better pay and conditions nor will they and their families enjoy better public services.

Many Unison members are amongst the lowest paid in the UK, working as school cleaners, janitors, hospital nursing assistants, cleaners and porters.

It is the SNP in government with its better benefits, lower rents, income and council tax, free prescriptions, the child payment, free tuition, lower crime and a better-performing NHS, which offers Unison members, of all people, the most.

It’s not just me making this case.

From the IFS last year:

In the most recent year (2022–23), school spending per pupil in Scotland was over £8,500. This is over 18% or £1,300 higher than the level seen in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, all around £7,200 per pupil. School spending per pupil in Scotland was already 6% higher than in England in 2010. Since then, the gap with the rest of the UK has significantly grown.

Spending per pupil in Scotland grew by 13% in real terms between 2009–10 and 2022–23. This partly reflects funding to cover higher teacher pay offers, such as the 7% salary rises in both 2019–20 and 2022–23. In Wales, spending per pupil in 2022–23 is only about 3% higher than in 2009–10, and it is about 2% higher in Northern Ireland than our earliest point of comparison in 2011–12. In England, spending per pupil is expected to get back to 2010 levels by next year.

Is McAnea hoping for a list Labour MSP position in 2026?

  1. What chance does anyone stand of a different future with a Labour Government that has voluntarily shackled itself to the limitations of failed Tory policies?

  2. Why do ANY Union Members, ‘follow blindly’ anything said/proposed by these charlatans who’ve managed to plant themselves in

    VASTLY HIGHLY PAID POSITIONS

purporting to look after the ABSOLUTE BEST INTERESTS of Union Members, especially the lowest paid.

Instead, MANY of these charlatans push their own agendas, while hiding their personal ambitions and self-interest.

It’s because of such dishonest people, that there exists low pay, insecure employment, ZERO HOURS contracts etc.

Yes the employers who try to/do impose the above are to blame, but if these FALSE unionist heads, fought these imposition in every way, it wouldn’t be so easy for these VILE/BAD EMPLOYERS to impose such hardship in the first place.

WHO allows themselves to be duped by these Union leaders

WHY haven’t the Membership come to realise/recognise the so-called

‘Standing up for the Union’s Members’

self-interest/WEALTH and Political ambitions of Union Leaders’.

This sleekit woman isn’t alone in such practices.

Were Jimmy Reid still be here today, you would hear him

    OVER TEN GLENS

calling out these false and devious people.

    1. It seems it’s so easy to fool people, posing as for the ‘workers’ these grifters taking huge sums as you say, from the workers in fact, seem to be easily placed in situ and it works perfectly.
As for Labour ever getting a hold on power at Holyrood, that is an extremely terrifying thought indeed. They will ruin Scotland. ’19 years of the SNP’, when Scotland’s had centuries of English rule, was the ‘poor man of Europe’ and ‘drugs capital of the world’. Sigh.
When England did a last minute geological survey of Scotland after they’d done an extensive survey in England, and discovered Scotland’s vast mineral wealth including oil on land and at sea, they must have panicked, and they have been conning and scamming the people of Scotland even more, ever since the 1950’s and before of course.
It’s tragic and very sad people fall for the English propaganda every time almost, but then up against a powerful Brit state with dodgy pals to support them, not easy to counter the lies either.

As someone pointed out yesterday can’t remember where, SNP should stop playing nice, and deploy their own ‘project fear’ tactics. I wholly agree and given Labour are in their honeymoon period the SNP should start planning now. There’s plenty of ‘meat’ re the ‘union’ and the utter disaster of having Brexit forced onto Scotland etc to get their teeth into! Notice no one’s talking about Brexit now post GE. We all live in GB now!
Oh and having read some comments on YTube channels I followed, slagging off the Tories every damn day, looks like people in England believe Starmer is a SAINT, rather than a SIR, same thing maybe for some. Yikes!
