No German bombers? Does no one learn any history these days?

These England fans are horrible I know, but even they deserve a fair comment based on historical accuracy.

Social media are alive with commentators alleging they’re singing about bombing Germany and thus fascists.

They may well be fascists but not because of the song. They’re singing quite explicitly about the heroic efforts of RAF fighter pilots (those are clearly inflatable fighter planes not bombers as any 11 year-old used to know), shooting down Nazi (fascist) bombers over London, in 1940.

    1. the model aircraft I saw being waved about was definitely a Lancaster. Laughing waver was with a crowd of grinning dolts. The ‘humour’ mystifies me.

To me this is more important in the present day it just shows what a sleekit man he is.

  2. I get what you’re saying, John, but FFS! Regardless, it’s a taunt.

By the way, if it wasn’t for the influx of Polish fighter pilots the battle of Britain would very likely have been lost. How shabbily those boys were treated after the war too.

  3. I am not saying all in the tartan army are saints but when you compare the media coverage of these events it is almosgt inevitable that news filters thro’ that English fans are the root cause trouble wherever and whenever they go. Anyone who has gone on holiday abroad knows how abnoxious and inconsiderate they are towards other people. IMHO they simply do not know how to conduct themselves in public. As someone who is against all this jingoistic nonsense they have every November this latest chant based I guess in ten green bottles is simply deporable. Many of my family died in WW2 and I do not need any service remembrance to remind me of the ultimate sacrifice and horrors they endured.

  4. And what about the fact some of them have chosen to dress up as crusaders? Given this was banned at the World Cup in Qatar, they can’t be ignorant of the connotations surely.

    Horrible, right enough.

  5. Great clarification on how scummy our neighbours from hell actually are.

“And the IRA from Ireland blew them up” would be a fitting equivalent. I know which one I’d support.
