All of Scotland’s hospitals within normal mortality range

From Public Health Scotland, today:

For the period January 2023 to December 2023 no hospitals had a significantly higher standardised mortality ratio than the national average [more deaths than predicted]. The standardised mortality ratio for Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France (1.12) is above the upper warning limit.

For the period January 2023 to December 2023 no hospitals had a significantly lower standardised mortality ratio than the national average [fewer deaths than predicted]. The standardised mortality ratio for Western General Hospital (0.83) is below the lower warning limit.

The graph reveals the cohesive nature of public health in a social democracy.

In more privatised NHS England and with sharper contrast between affluent and deprived areas, the picture is more dispersed, with some hospitals revealing far higher and far lower mortality rates than each other:

The two hospitals at the top with worryingly higher death rates [80 when 55 and 450 when only 245, were expected] are in the Camden area of London and in East Lancashire, Blackburn Burnley.
