BBC Cumbria becomes the latest of BBC regions to report on the devastating plague of County Lines gangs spreading drug death, extreme violence, people trafficking and child abuse, across the UK and now from Manchester to small towns in Cumbria.
Imagine if these gangs were based in Scottish cities and crossing into England?

BBC Scotland’s last and only report on County Lines gangs in Scotland, estimated at 55 groups, from Dumfries to Dingwall, more than three years ago. the report is careful not to mention the word ‘England’ nor even name the all-English cities where the gangs are based.
Why might BBC Scotland, the Herald, the Scotsman and STV be so reluctant to tell us that English drug gangs are terrorising many Scottish towns? Might it look bad for the Union? Not do much broad shoulders as pockets full of guns and knives?

Drugs deaths in Scotland is a long term attack line of the opposition and the Scottish media. Since the ‘Country Lines’ gangs are brining drugs into Scotland this is likely to cause further deaths.
In addition, the main trope underpinning the anti independence cause is that Scots are inherently degenerate and feckless. So, by not acknowledging the Country Lines gangs, the media can continue to imply that it is the essential fecklessness of Scots to blame for addiction deaths.
When the residents of Cumnock took action against the gangs, BBC Scotland reported it as community disorder – drunken violent Scots.

Apologies. It ought to be ‘County Lines’.

This has been going on for years. Targeting places like Peterhead with illegal drugs. A young wealthy population. Establish more total abstinence proper rehab facilities. The young are reaching out for help attending NA and AA to help lead better lives.
The Scottish Gov funding drug/alcohol rehabilitation £250million over five years. Rehabs set up in the Borders and Dundee with more on the way. Deaths will fall. The Police are catching more and more of the culprits. More are getting jailed. Alcohol deaths are down. Drug deaths will decrease. The young are more knowledgable. With resources being put in place. The younger more people access help the more successful the outcome. People are more aware to seek help.
The UK Gov could do more to tax and end 24/7 drinking. Total failure to put in measures to tackle food obesity.
