Scotrail satisfaction higher than every other UK rail company, since nationalisation by SNP, and shocking 26% better than in Labour Wales

By Professor John Robertson

As STV, stupidly and deceptively context-free, headline 27 500 trains cancelled since nationalisation, figures show, several social media posts have shared the above in response.

Look at Wales! Only 72% compared to 91% satisfaction in Scotland. Scotrail is thus 26.4% more popular with travellers.

The Transport Focus report in March 2023, also had:

  1. ‘Good News’ about anything in SNP controlled Scotland must actually cause PAIN to the Unionist Media .

That is the only explanation for their constant undermining of Scotland , its people , its services and its reputation . Either that or they are a bunch of F*****g B******s.

  2. This amounts to 37 cancellations per day out of more than 2300, around 1.5%

In England the rate is nearer 5%.

STV is becoming as anti-Scottish as BBC Scotland.

  3. ‘STV is becoming as anti-Scottish as BBC Scotland’ – as evidenced by its practice of context and perspective-free reporting. It would be so easy and quick for STV better to inform its audience – and voters – but that would require different journalistic/editorial objectives.

To further fill the void in STV’s reporting, what follows is from the Office of Road and Rail (7 March 2023) ‘Passenger rail performance, 1 October to 31 December 2023’.

    1. Trains planned by operator, October to December 2023, and percentage change compared with October to December 2022 (Table 3123)

Scotrail – 11.8 percentage point increase on same period in 2022. Just seven out of 24 operators had a larger increase.

    1. On Time by operator, October to December 2023 and percentage point (pp) change compared with October to December 2022 (Table 3133)

Scotrail – 62.9% up 0.5% on same period in 2022. Just seven out of 24 operators had a better performance.

    1. Reliability: cancellations score by operator, October to December 2023 and percentage point (pp) change compared with October to December 2022 (Table 3123)

Scotrail – cancellation score is 3.3%, 1.5 percentage points better than the same period in 2022. Just three out of 24 operators had a better performance.

Some operators have reported they use the practice of “P-coding” for resource availability shortage pre-cancellations. Pre-cancelled trains are removed from the timetable before it is finalised at 22:00 the previous evening and therefore may not be appearing in operators’ Cancellations scores. Seventeen operators reported the use of “P– coded” pre-cancellations in the latest quarter, including Scotrail.

    1. Official Cancellations score and “P*- coded” adjusted Cancellations score,

Scotrail – 3.2% ‘official’ and 3.5% ‘P*- coded” adjusted’. On the latter, Scotrail is second best performer of the 17 operators.

So no, Scotrail is not the top performer but only in Scotland would a service performing so well relative to its peers be the target of headline negativity.

Context and perspective-free news reporting of topics with a political dimension is necessary in – a natural consequence of -political agenda-driven reporting.

  4. O/T sorry

    BBC website:

“JK Rowling in ‘arrest me’ challenge over hate crime law”

Pity there was not a law against “constant attention seeking uber wealthy over privileged peeps’ like her who promotes it’s ‘my way or the highway’ type of opinion on politics and other matters…….her nose cannot help but be stuck into most issues/situations/politics that she demands should be altered/reversed/different ….it’s her dismissive and condescending manner that irks….of course us mere mortals who, unlike her, cannot be protected by vast wealth that sees some, like her, not bear the brunt of her beloved UK and the many financial negatives that are linked to it as a dysfunctional and failed state…….

She dislikes SNP, Scottish independence, Jeremy Corbyn, anything passed as a law , bill or policy originating from the Scottish government, Scottish FM (past & present)…….indeed if we need to talk about matters ‘controversial’ that exist in Scotland then some of the ‘tweets’ she writes would be well within that category.

I mean FFS please who cares as we all know what lies behind her incessant attacks upon the Scottish government…..in that she is compromised by her allegiance to the (non) Union and too a Blair(ish) type of Labour party…..it’s becoming a bit tiresome now her ongoing moaning indeed one could set one’s watch to it…as in whenever the SNP say or do something…..then it’s all Hail JK Rowling Tweeting yet another snide/nasty/biased Tweet….who sees herself as always right obvs….as do her legion of followers…..

Hate Crime & Public Order (Scotland) Bill…..Hmm

Not like JK to misrepresent something via the Scottish government aka the SNP…..but then again……as sure as night follows day….LOL

Is it not just too predictable and boring now….this constant look at ME ME ME….bow down to my opinion…..a La JKR…and tis also predictable who via the media would give her a prominent platform to spout #SNPBAD….as in the BBC Scotland news ( and t’other usual media suspects)……….better watch she might report me for this comment (via the bill she supposedly opposes) ….LOL
