Here’s why today’s ‘Child NHS wait scandal’ stories omit mental health

The Scotsman and the Mail are headlining the 114.6%, just over doubling’ of waiting time lists for more than 12 weeks, among under 18 year-olds. Comparisons with other parts of the UK are not always possible, but I’m working on that and will report soon. Just over doubling in 10 years? I suspect there is even worse to be found elsewhere.

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health research seems to focus only on Scotland and carefully avoids mention of the crucial area of mental health. You can see why as, in Scotland, performance is steadily improving and, most recently, to hit 84% seen within target. The target is 90% within 18 weeks of referral.

This was not reported after it was published on 5 March 2024.

  1. O/T apologies

The London Economic article March 2024 header is:

“Scotland’s extraordinary fiscal contribution to UK economy revealed”

“Scotland’s annual tax contributions to the UK have increased by £14.2 billion over the last decade, with income tax, capital gains tax and taxes on productions such as environmental levies driving this increased contribution”

“New analysis shows that the Scottish public sector generated an annual revenue of £73.3 billion during the last financial year, a 24 per cent increase versus a decade ago, equating to an increased contribution of £14.2 billion to the UK economy”.

Commenting on the figures, Bradley Post, the managing director of RIFT, said: “Scotland’s economic contribution to the UK stretches far beyond North Sea Oil and, in fact, there has been significant increases across many areas of the Scottish economy in the last decade.

“So while the topic of Scottish independence may be a contentious one, there are over fourteen billion reasons why the UK should be happy that Scotland remains a part of it today.”

Aye Scotland too wee and too poor….that is , only if you read MSM output and listen to Pro UK politicians, as in same ones who state that we, Scotland, need the UK more than they need us ….yet somehow they all fail to equate that England also needs the UK as none of them ever proclaim this to also be the case ….as in reinforcing this as a fact with the same vigour that they apply to Scotland’s supposed dependency upon the UK……but the real Q is what is it that Scotland needs the UK for ?

Well based on the above article it seems that the UK does indeed need Scotland far more than we need it…..but then we already knew that did we not !…..alas because the media here in Scotland are complicit in suppressing the real worth and value of Scotland’s economy then some voters here believe we, Scotland, cannot go it alone ……same voters who never wonder why it is that all of the pro UK political parties (and their media) spend so much time, money and effort to try to keep us within their UK, as in us a nation, that they all state is subsidised by that same UK (that is the same UK we in Scotland contribute to but somehow the impression is given is that it, the UK, is the benefactor and we, Scotland, are the beneficiaries of it’s charitable benevolence)……….but how much does their UK benefit from Scotland’s compelled benevolence as a substantial benefactor to their UK ?…..that is filed under ‘Wheesht’.
