Official UK Parliament evidence that SNP management of the economy after Covid has meant far more recovery than in England or Wales

The above data table is from People claiming unemployment benefits by constituency, a Research Briefing, Published Tuesday, 12 March, 2024, a UK Parliament publication at: https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-8748/

The Guardian has been digging in the data for evidence of the soaring number unavailable for work due to mental health problems.

The BBC UK’s Economy team are on it with More than a fifth of UK adults not looking for work, but BBC Scotland is full of Michael Matheson and Hate Crime. BBC Scotland Business just has a link to the BBC UK Economy report.

A quick look at the extreme right hand column tells us that unemployment-related benefit claiming is at 3.9% in England and 3.4% in Wales, but is only at 3.1% in Scotland.

Less than a 1% difference? Not significant and for a Reporting Scotland presenter ‘broadly the same?’

Go zooming left to the very first column, the actual number claiming. All things being equal, with 10 times the population, England might be expected then to have 1 084 900 claimants but has 1 405 485, around 300 000 more.

Return to the middle and see huge percentage surges everywhere but a fall in claiming in Scotland.

Will BBC Scotland spot this? If so, will they tell us?

  1. Nearly full employment. Higher retirees and people on the spectrum. Nearodiverse being diagnosed. A better outcome. Looking out and caring for people who need some extra help. A more kind, caring society. More coherent, happy and prosperous ideals. Makes people happier. Long Covid being sorted out and supported.

The NHS needs more funding. A higher work load. NHS funding has not increased for nine years. Austerity. £125Billion a year. The Tories are mis spending £1090Billion a year. No much needed increase for the NHS. The Scottish Gov has to mitigate the cuts. £13Billion spent+ social care. Allowing people to stay in their own home. Instead of residential or hospital care, More expensive. A better outcome,

  2. I am convinced that the BBC Charter has been secretly amended lately to encourage the demonisation of anything SNP-related , so their continued ignoring of all ”good news” anent Scotland is them doing their job .

This cannot be confirmed via a FOI request to BBCScorchedland as they appear to be exempt from inquiries which highlight their lack of neutrality , balance , trustworthiness , competence , …

      1. Don’t think ‘cohesion’ but certainly coercion. The British (nationalists) state are experts at divide and rule, they have been doing it for ages, so yes they will use any means by which to deny Scotland having any factual, truthful, evidential information. What they do is quite clever, draw people in with a wee clickbait story, then go full on negative Scotland is really sh*te for the next few hours days, weeks and months. Also, the BBC EngGovs’ TV ‘license’ scares the heck out of people into paying for it, they believe they will be sent to prison if they don’t pay up! Under Scots Law, a person cannot be jailed for ‘debt’, so BBC can’t even threaten folks with jail, but they do lock people up in England for not paying up, and scare tactics work.

    1. They are allowed to sell newspapers because the people who own the Westminster Government also own these newspapers and these newspapers keep blasting the message: THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE! JOCKS ARE ARSEHOLES WHO CANNOT RUN THINGS.

  3. The BBC has been illegally taken over by Tories. The last 14 years. Costing £6Billion a year. Half spent on the estate. Enough to eliminate poverty if better spent.

Education cut £6Billion a year since 2015. £48Billion. Increases going to the BBC. Unequal and unfair. Totally biased Gov propaganda. Scotland has few rights over broadcasting. More in the private sector. Do not watch or pay for ads. More choice against corruption. Private broadcasting still controlled by UK Gov.

BBC Scotland controlled by Labour Mafia. infiltrated by Unionist beliefs. Views not supported by over 50% of the population. No wonder viewership is so low. How long can they go. People see through the nonsense. Turn off.

  4. The BCC Charter is not honoured in any way, shape or form. People get their information better and easier, on the internet. Sharing information. Cutting out the unneccessary middle people peddling nonsense. Makes no sense. BBC liars always get found out.

  5. and here’s the news where you are,

”Hello, Scotland is shite today, it was shite yesterday and it’ll be shite tomorrow, that’s all from us in Shiteland”.

thanks for keeping up the good work Prof John, you watch the BBC so we don’t have to.

  6. EE should not be claiming so astronomical roaming charges. Totally out of proportion. They should make a refund. An absolute disgrace. To watch a football match. How much are these charges? Illegal. Football companies should pay it back. Ripping off the punters. Paying no tax. Diabolical.

  7. Imagine if the Labour branch office (with their England HQ’d masters instructing them) had been at the helm in Scotland over the pandemic and after, actually no don’t it’s too scarey. Labour’s legacy in Scotland is atrocious as it is.
