Sarwar’s non dom tax might increase medical appointments by less than 1%!

Once more, Labour have trouble with their sums.

From STV today:

Scottish Labour would use the money raised from closing the non-dom tax loophole in the UK to slash NHS waiting lists in Scotland, Anas Sarwar will pledge.

The Scottish Labour leader will tell the party’s conference in Glasgow that the policy could fund 160,000 new NHS appointments a year.

Scottish Labour’s three-day conference begins on Friday at the Scottish Event Campus and will end on Sunday.

Keir Starmer said in October that £1.5bn raised by scrapping the loophole would go to funding more NHS appointments.

Scottish Labour said that would deliver an extra £134m for the Scottish Government in Barnett consequentials.

From NHS Scotland:

Since the NHS was established in 1948, primary care has been the cornerstone of the healthcare system. It acts as the main point of contact for Scotland’s population with around 25 million consultations per year in general practice alone and a further 840,000 contacts with primary care out of hours (OOH).

Add to that the around 250 000 operations carried out in hospitals every year, and we’re talking about 26 million.

Sarwar’s 160 000 count for 0.61%!

  1. …but Sarwar and his nearest and dearest won’t be too bothered about long waiting lists , will they ? Private education , Private Health Care , Millionaire status – a True Labour Man !

  2. As commented previously, where will Sarwar (or Starmer come to that) find the additional staff with an already UK-wide shortage ?

As with ‘the Vow’, it’s just another headline to be quietly forgotten….

  3. Scottish Labour would use the money raised from closing the non-dom tax loophole in the UK to slash NHS waiting lists in Scotland, Anas Sarwar will pledge

Does that mean that this ‘pledge’ from Sarwar would ONLY happen if Scotland voted Labour in Scotland at the next Holyrood elections and they were elected as the next Scottish government…..as the above quote stated “Scottish Labour would use the money”…….and not…..the Scottish government (meaning existing one) could have extra money for say the NHS for example…..

I think we all know that if there is a Labour government at WM and the SNP are the government in Scotland…..well Labour HQ are NOT going to do anything positive for the SNP , as in give more money to Scotland , for the SNP to then be seen to benefit or be at an advantage in Scotland….. are they…..especially as Labour in Scotland are one of their, SNP’s, political opponents……

So it’s political blackmail now is it from Sarwar….how low can one get….well very low it seems……it also, as a statement i.e. “Pledge” from him , contradicts what he, Sarwar, stated in the Daily Record the other day i.e. that he, Sarwar, would (have to) stand up to Starmer for Scotland’s interests” as that seems to infer that Keir Starmer would be reluctant to give additional money and support to Scotland does it not…..thus Sarwar was suggesting that he would have a fight on his hands to get anything for Scotland from Keir Starmer……(reality is though that Sarwar wouldn’t even attempt to do or say anything to Keir Starmer as PM if Scotland was indeed neglected by Starmer (and it will be) as he, Sarwar, would just continue to blame the SNP as he is doing now under the existing Tory UK Govt)…….

BTW Anas Sarwar apparently said the word “Change” 60 times in his speech……

Remember Theresa May’s “Strong and stable” mantra in the 2017 GE….

Where every Tory MP, Cabinet minister and she herself said that mantra at every single opportunity….in interviews , Debate shows etc etc…..it was said so many many times by them, so much so, that people began to recognise it for what it was and saw that it was just another political vapid slogan (not forgetting that her leadership ended up NOTHING like “Strong” or indeed that it was anything but “Stable” as she eventually had to resign as Tory leader and PM within two years of being elected as Tory leader)……

Well now it seems we have the New New Labour’s version of their mantra/vapid slogan i.e. “Change” …………and lo and behold it, as a vapid slogan/mantra, is being used in the exact same way as Theresa May’s vapid slogan/mantra.

As we, the public, are now all hearing the word “Change” over and over and over again….via all New New Labour MP’s, MSP’s, shadow cabinet ministers etc using it and also noting it in their Tweets……….

And too Anas Sarwar (said “Change” 60 times in his speech) and always says it when being interviewed and also Keir Starmer includes it in his speeches and interviews (and they also both include it in their Tweets)……

So that it’s creation as a vapid slogan has now become just an obvious and embarrassing form of political brainwashing…..but let’s not forget based on Starmer’s U-Turns and New New Labour’s intention to retain much of what exists now under the Tories then it seems that what we, the public, will actually get if they, New New Labour, are elected as the next UK Govt is NO actual or real “Change”……

As already they, New New labour, are already reneging on their many promises due to what they say is for “fiscal responsibility” reasons……that is they know the UK piggy bank is empty and that Brexit really cannot work….. thus it seems “Austerity” similar to the Tories will ensue under New New Labour (but it seems that the Bankers and large corporations will still be well looked after by them, New New Labour, as the next UK government)……

Which all just proves that under a New New Labour UK government……nothing will “Change”……or as Theresa May once said “Nothing has changed” (that’s what we will eventually all say after New New Labour get elected as the next UK Govt and have been in power for what will probably be ONE term as the UK government)

Who knew ?……….well we did on here as do many others outwith here……so here’s a mantra ……’Vote Labour GET Tory’…..simples ! (so vote SNP at the next GE and if you do want REAL change and ACTUAL Change for the better then support Scottish independence…….simples)……

  4. The Tories are spending £1090Billion a year. They cut NHS spending. From 2015 £125Billion a year no increase.

The SNHS is funded £13Billion by the Scottish Gov + social care, allowing people to stay in their own home for longer. Saving monies. From the Scottish Grant. £40Billion.
