Where’s David? Hiding a Scottish Tory oil & gas shares scandal

BBC Scotland Politics – Hasn’t the Conservative MP for Banff and Buchan done something we deserve to hear about? No, we have three iPad abuse stories needing space here.

From the Guardian today not on the front page, and only beyond that, in the National:

The Conservative MP David Duguid failed to declare his wife’s £50,000 shareholding in BP while speaking in debates about windfall taxes on the oil and gas industry, the parliamentary commissioner has found.

The parliamentary commissioner for standards carried out an investigation into the MP for Banff and Buchan and former Scotland Office minister after the Guardian revealed Duguid’s wife’s shareholdings.

Parliamentary rules require MPs to declare while speaking in debates the financial interests of a spouse or other family member, where there could be considered a conflict. MPs have to register shares they own worth £70,000 or more than 15%, and any other interests that might “reasonably be thought by others to influence a member’s actions”. Duguid has never disclosed his wife’s financial interest in the House of Commons register.

The Guardian’s analysis of BP’s share register suggested Duguid, who worked for 25 years in the oil and gas industry, including 10 years with BP, had moved his shares into his wife’s name five years before his election as an MP.

  1. BBC Scotland operates under sufferance by the Conservatives, so they do not ask any questions of Tories that might be awkward. Remember for years how when the Baroness Colonel Davidson was the Leader in Scotland and ‘Prime Minister in waiting’ according to the New Statesman, BBC Scotland simply fed her lines so that she could deliver her ‘slamming’ of the Scottish Government.

Mr Duguid is a wealthy man, so why should he have to go through the piffle of ‘declaring and interest’.

The interest of the wealthy is in making as much money as possible and paying as little tax as possible.

  2. The BBC, like their friends in Pro UK political parties, love to highlight that Scotland is still a part of their UK yet somehow they never want to highlight UK political stories that impact us in Scotland as those, that we here in Scotland, are subjected to via various UK government’s reserved powers……and they also fail to relate stories of scandals etc that are connected to Pro UK politicians that would be deemed of interest to us…..especially in a GE year (but also ever)….balance is not ,it appears, a necessary requirement for the BBC in their political coverage…..

So (yet) another very very naughty Tory politician story is not apparently worthy of the BBC highlighting on their website…..I mean how the H would they fit it in …..what with all of the #SNPBAD stories that constantly fill their website pages…..will they only be forced to include it on their website when social media and complaints become impossible for them to ignore it as a significant story aka scandal (though if they do include it on their website….it will not last as long as the Michael Mathieson IPad story has via their website or indeed as the Ferry stories has either….my guess it will be placed not at the top of their website and also it’s time on their website ,as a story (scandal), will be very limited….to make space for MORE regurgitated #SNPBAD stories on IPad’s and Ferries etc)……….

Duguid seems to be DO Bad …..can’t say I’m shocked……it’s the Tory way apparently.

  4. In UK Parliament website on the 14th November 2023 David Duguid stated in parliament that he welcomed : “recent announcements on new North sea licences and the announcement before the summer of the energy security investment mechanism, by which the EPL will be removed when appropriate. Can my hon. Friend tell me when we can expect a response to the consultation on the ESIM and what plans this Government have to legislate for the mechanism? Will he meet me to discuss how investor confidence in our home-grown industry can be assured further”?

On t 9th November he stated “The main thrust of my contributions has been, I believe, to reinforce the critical role played by oil and gas companies; their workers with their skills and expertise; the technology, supply chains and service companies; and, yes, the capital that those companies bring in making this country’s energy transition a success”

His Voting record includes ‘Aye’ to the “Offshore Petroleum Licensing Bill: Second Reading on the 22nd January 2024. and ‘Aye’ to ‘Energy Bill [Lords]: Third Reading on 5th September 2023….but he was also recorded on UK parliament website as having voted ‘No’ (five times) to Lords new clauses on this Energy bill.

The Offshore Petroleum Licensing Bill: initiates an annual process inviting applications for new offshore oil and gas production licences in the North Sea (which, according to the BBC as a resource for an independent Scotland, Oil , was apparently a resource , that should have (would they said) run out in 2019 as per the opinion of their specially selected ‘Expert’…one of many they have on speed dial)……

BTW The Guardian’s analysis of BP’s share register suggested “Duguid, who worked for 25 years in the oil and gas industry, including 10 years with BP, had moved his shares into his wife’s name five years before his election as an MP”….and last year his wife was reported to have been very critical of any ‘Windfall tax’ imposed upon oil companies.…I bet she was….nudge nudge wink wink….what a tangled web etc etc (another one involving a Tory politician….seems endless does it not)

OMG it certainly gives us clarity as to why the BBC are yet again regurgitating #SNPBAD stories related to Ferries…..in their quest to ‘pull the wool over the eyes’ of voters in Scotland in their Do not look over here (at the Tories and Labour parties) look over there (at the SNP).….most definite this is BBC State propaganda in the “news where you are” (NOT)……

Remember it was the SNP who challenged this last year when they wrote to the head of the UK civil service to establish a “full and independent inquiry” into whether Duguid broke the ministerial code. Tommy Sheppard SNP MP for Edinburgh East asked last year whether ““Serious questions must now be asked as to whether David Duguid broke the ministerial code by failing to declare his wife’s huge shares in BP” ….as in the SAME SNP that the BBC here are trying to crucify…..for reasons all too obvious. ( So it seems that based on the findings of the Standards Commissioner that the SNP were SPOT ON re this…..which will also not be promoted in the ‘News where you are’……also for obvious reasons……

  6. BBC Scotland (Norn Irn branch) only issues news relating to their “citizenry journalism”.

That would constitute FoIs requests from Toadies, Toadie-Lites and Dumbs.

These citizen journos endlessly complain about FoI requests being late or blocked, but you NEVER get this nonsense in BEEB Engerlund (“England” news/sport/politics/history/drama et al constitutes 99% of what is broadcast into Scotland) or Labour-friendly BEEB Wales.
