Scotland’s lower Covid death rate – BBC complaint

Submitted the above today.

No doubt, they’ll defend the notion that the rates were similar in Scotland and England but don’t see how they get out of having claimed Wales was better.

This, of course, will never see the light of day:

The gap may be far wider.

See this Channel 4 fact check:

The UK government often states that the national death toll only covers those who have died in hospital, but this rule is only strictly true of England.

The governments of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales have all told FactCheck that they include deaths of people who have tested positive and died outside hospital – which might include private health homes β€“ in the figures which they submit to Whitehall.https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-can-we-trust-the-covid-19-death-toll

  1. The enquiry ought to be able to get accurate data regarding infections and fatalities and enable valid comparisons to be made.

The BBC Scotland article seemed to me to be trying to plant a particular perception BEFORE formal evidence has been gathered.

  2. Lorna Gordon of BBC Scotland was also trying to set the “little difference in Covid deaths” scene for the BBC Network news this morning.

Also, she was playing heavily on “was politics in play in Scotland”, well it certainly was if you worked for BBC Scotland dear Lorna! πŸ™‚
