SNP government has saved over 100 000 doctor appointments in 2023

I’m grateful to Dorothy once more for both alerting me to this and for largely guiding the both the sums and the framing of the narrative.

As First Minister and, before that, as Health Secretary, Humza Yousaf has been careful to put in the hours, do his day job, to meet with health service union representatives and avert damaging strikes.

In England, the story has been very different. From the Guardian, today:

Tens of thousands of patients will have their care cancelled from Wednesday in England amid massive disruption caused by a six-day strike by junior doctors – the longest in the NHS’s 75-year history.

“There’s likely to be many, many thousands of appointments cancelled or rescheduled again, and that’s on top of the 1.2m we’ve already seen during well over a year now with periods of industrial action,” said Prof Sir Stephen Powis, NHS England’s national medical director.

With a tenth of the population of England and applying BBC Reporting Scotland’s guidelines on simpleton arithmetic, that means 120 000 appointments in Scotland were saved by the efforts of SNP ministers!

Now, I know this is good news, of the kind that might cheer up the old folk, and BBC Scotland insist no one wants to know about this SNP whataboutery, but you might want to spread it about and see if we can get big numbers like that MSM Monitor.

  1. Ah, but, the photie shows junior doctors on strike in Newcastle and Newcastle is ‘nearly in Scotland’ and the Geordie accent is similar to some Scottish accents, so, the malign influence of Scotland is evident. If Scotland had not raised pay for junior doctors in Scotland, then junior doctors in England would have given up. So, Scotland has caused more strikes in England.

Her Dameness the Jakey of Baillie will be highly critical because I was not offered an appointment yesterday.

  2. Not a big deal, I agree, but my man’s ear has been driving him crazy with itch. He eventually phoned the surgery and was offered an appointment with a nurse that afternoon. The nurse then asked a doctor to have a look and he was prescribed medication which he picked up from the chemist right away. That’s what I call service.
