Better Together BMA Scotland shop steward doesn’t call for GP staffing in Scotland to be lowered to UK average

Thinks – that was never a penalty. Killie get everything.

In the Guardian today:

The leader of Scotland’s doctors has called for rural GPs to get higher pay and special status to cope with a critical shortfall of medics in the Highlands, islands and rural counties.

I have no doubt there are shortages in Scotland’s rural areas. I’m guessing there always were, even before the flood of middle-class settlers used to urban-levels of staffing and ambulance waiting times, from Central Scotland too before you accuse me of Anglophobia, arrived to age self-importantly in our glens and on our islands.

The Guardian writer does not, of course, wish to put this into perspective. See this from 2019 (please update if you are aware of more recent data):

As the below chart shows, the level of cover of GPs varies across the UK and across the regions of England. The highest levels are in Scotland (76 GPs per 100,000 population) and the lowest in North West London (54)

Footnote – I see that Doc Kennedy no longer has the Union Flag in his twitter heading. His alleged Rangers season ticket may just be a rumour.

  1. The Drs, in Scotland, salaries were increased. No strikes. Saving public monies. Saving people’s lives. Westminster’s Brexit lost healthcare staff.

NHS funding was cut by Westminster in real terms in 2010. UK NHS funding £125Billion a year. Westminster spending £1090Billion. 2020/21.

  2. Instead of wasting tax payers money to get a photo op ( possibly all morning, got to
get the correct pensive pose) he “ possibly” could have treated four to five patients per hour that day, but then gotta get the lighting moody enough to reflect the serious subject.
I am currently being treated for cancer and have been cared for by NHS Scotland,
I have attended appointments across Glasgow, mainly for continuous scans, and
can’t thank the staff enough….these people are fantastic……not just for treatment
    but for support and understanding!!!
I now count “my team” as close friends and lifesavers.
Since Sarwar has been leader of Labour branch office in Scotland he has denigrated
SNHS with scare stories about cancer patients and I am sick of it, he is a disgrace of a person, as are all unionist politicians in Scotland…….surely the Scottish people don’t buy in to this scaremongering.
I will continue to vote SNP for Independence maybe not for my future but for my children and their kids.
    Wake Up Scotland!!!

  3. The staged pose is so revealing of those who framed the shot and the Chair’s wooden construction https://archive.ph/jAeZC – Nobody juts their beard, carries a stern expression or a stethoscope or a meter registering zero in a surgery devoid of patients.. Not even Lazy Winters from HMS James Cook…
Rarely in Tory media history has such a setup so dismally failed – No Scrubs ? No hairgel ? Gulhane appears almost certain to win the 2023 ‘golden sprinkles and incontinent panties’ award again (Scotland’s version of the Rotten tomatoes) with his props of scrubs, script, hairgel, teeth, and free amplification by HMS James Cook…
Never let it be said that Severin Reality couldn’t put on a good show…
