The Telegraph front page for readers in Scotland places deaths associated with NHS strikes only in England and a London stabbing death alongside another ‘Sturgeon’ story.
The first impression is that these deaths occur in Scotland and that, once more, the SNP have failed in some way.

The Telegraph report claims to have analysed ONS figures for England, Wales and Scotland to reveal 52 698 more deaths than would have been expected in 2023.
There is, perhaps conveniently for them, no breakdown of the data for the three countries nor is there any reflection on the total absence of health strikes in Scotland and how that might be affecting trends.
The SNP success in averting strikes is not in the public interest clearly.

There is also a glaring error in the excess deaths story. It states that 2023 was a ‘non-pandemic year’s thus justifying, by their reasoning, that the excess deaths were due to the strikes. The pandemic is NOT over. The emergency phase of the pandemic is over but the the pandemic is not over as the latest surge in Covid cases has shown. Therefore 2023 was a pandemic year and Covid would probably have made a contribution to the number of excess deaths either directly or indirectly through the conditions which occur as a result of Covid eg heart failure.

Austerity. Knife deaths in London S/E increased 200 a year. Overall UK total homicides increased from 500 a year. On average 1 a week. In a population of 67million. Increased to 700.
The Tories took away all the support system. Cuts in Welfare £16Billion+. Since 2010 figures have reduced again. Covid? reduced crime and offences. Curfew. Most homicides are committed by men. 100+ women are murdered. Crime is a gender issue.
Most murders are committed by known and associated people. Much crime is committed by people under the influence of alcohol/drugs. Less would be committed by people sober. The drinks in the wits oot. Crime is decreasing in Scotland. Cyber crime is increasing. The UK has the higher prison population in Europe. Less in Scotland, pro rata, then the rest of the UK.
Women who co habit, the majority, do not have equal rights. They have to put in a claim within a year (1/3). It can take years and cost £thousands. Many women do not have the means. There is little legal aid which has to be paid back in any case. Women and children have to stay in abusive, unsafe situations. They cannot get away. The Law has been changed recently in England so women can get legal aid and not lose the roof over their heads.

The Barclay family at loggerheads. Suing each other through he Courts. Spying on each other and abusing funds. The Saudis the only interested party. Tax evading Non Doms illegally own the Press. Westminster is supposed to guarantee a free and fair Press. It reneges. Leveson not implemented. Without a free and fair Press there is no Democracy.
