SNP’s Scotland seems very attractive to the world if you look at actual evidence, Chris Deerin

From Ernst & Young on 19 June 2023:

  • A record 126 inward investment projects were secured by Scotland in 2022 (up from 122 in 2021) maintaining the country’s position as the top UK location for FDI outside London
  • Fourth successive year of Scottish FDI project growth, with projects up 3.3% and total UK down by 6.4%. Scotland sets new record for its UK market share at 13.6% (12.3% of projects in 2021, and 11% in 2020)
  • Among investors, Scotland polls as the most attractive place in the UK to invest after London. A record 19.2% of investors considering FDI locations intend to establish or expand operations in Scotland in future
  • Edinburgh and Glasgow ranked as the first and second cities outside London for planned investment over the next year, with one third of investors aiming to back projects in Edinburgh, Glasgow or Aberdeen
  • Digital tech and utilities (including renewables) drive FDI growth, with manufacturing FDI at highest in a decade

Who is Chris Deerin really? Not just a journo. See this from October 2023:

That’s according to research for a think tank. The Commission on School Reform says ministers must work with councils to reverse the trend. The Scottish government says it’s looking at challenges that influence attendance…..the figures are based on Freedom of Information requests from the Scottish local authorities who were able to respond to them. The figures suggest nearly one in three children are missing an average of one day a fortnight, while nearly 20% of high school pupils miss a day every week…. A Commission spokesperson says children who miss a large proportion of school time are less likely to attain and less likely to form good relationships.

Once more, a Reporting Scotland headline story not covered on the BBC Scotland website.

Commission on School Reform? No names mentioned because

Chair – Rt Hon Lord McConnell of Glenscorrodale

Director – Chris Deerin, just another journalist and regular SNP-critic.

Research Director – Alison Payne. Some Researcher! See this:

In recent years, popping up as just a ‘mum’, unattributed, on Reporting Scotland, GMS and Kay Adams to moan about SNP school policies, Payne began her career within the Scottish Conservative MSPs’ Research Unit, going on to spend four years as Head of Research. She later went on to become Political Adviser to Annabel Goldie MSP, Leader of the Scottish Conservative Group of MSPs. This role included acting as adviser to the Scottish Conservative Policy Advisory Group. She also spent 10 years as a Girl Guide leader, prior to the birth of her second child in 2010. And, how did she become a Research Director with no evidence of research training – PhD, MRes, even an honours degree with a dissertation? Girl Guide connections?

Sample for the research? Only 5 of 34 LAs are mentioned.

Evidence for claim? High attainment pupils do have high attendance but we have no evidence of causality. Maybe those who attain like to go to school more than those who are failing?

  1. Why does the SNP declare a “lack of confidence” in the lack of journalistic ethics and honesty of this patently partisan outfit?

Ask the BBC to publish the minutes of Board meetings concerning “Scotland” and how it is reported via the BBC.

  2. 1 in 20 pupils are on the autistic spectrum. The have autism, ADHD or dyslexia. Some will never be able to read or write to the norm but have exceptional talents. Higher than the norm. Everything invented has been by people on the spectrum.

School can be overwhelming for them causing them anxiety leading to meltdowns. They are better attending school for shorter periods. The timetable can be made to accommodate their needs. According to the school syllabus and curriculum. They can still be extremely well. Using computers etc.

The unionist political parties have no idea about the education system and do not bother to find out. Just spout negativity all the time. Not looking up the figures or facts. Trying to cut additional needs support. Shops and offices lying empty but building more. Instead of schools and houses.

The Tories cut education £6Billion a year from 2015. £48Billion. The SNP have to try and mitigate the cuts.

  3. The Scottish education system is one of the best in the world. More people go to university as a proportion of the population. More universities per % of population. 15 the highest in the world. Only Finland has the same %. Scotland has colleges and apprenticeships. 30% go from school. 25% mature students. 7% EU students. Reciprocal. It was 15% before Brexit. 5 Highers + opportunity. A wider curriculum with more choice and variety. Teacher have higher qualifications and higher remuneration. Foreign students paying the full cost. Students do not end up £thousands in debt. The next highest % is Canada. In the US 40% are educated to the highest degree level. Private education and massive fees.

The Tories cut education funding £6Billion a year from 2015. £48Billion.

Teachers need more additional needs training. The unionist councils cut support. The unionist councils build shops and offices. Instead of schools and houses. Shops and offices sitting empty but they build more. A total waste of monies. The gang together to keep the SNP out. Then waste £millions/billions of taxpayers monies. Instead of keeping class sizes down.
