Highland Independents have ‘failed children’ after 27 years in control while SNP Government reduces poor condition schools by 77% in only 16 after Labour’s neglect is ended

Mums Avril Robertson, left, and Lorraine MacLean said St Clement’s pupils and “exemplary” staff were being failed by poor facilities

From BBC Scotland today under the headline: Our children are being failed by the condition of their school:

Parents have told of their despair at the state of their children’s special school – and their 20-year battle for a replacement building. St Clement’s in Dingwall provides education for three to 18-year-olds, with pupils receiving additional needs support for physical disabilities and neurological conditions. Part of the school is more than 100 years old, and has corridors and doorways not fit for wheelchairs.

The report also has 5 mentions of the Scottish Government and one of the Education Secretary but does not mention that the SNP has only been the largest party in the council since 2022, after 27 years of control by Independents and responsibility for the condition of schools going back into the 19th Century.

Of course, in a BBC report on school conditions, only one is discussed and this, on the other 5 051, is not:

Scottish schools buildings are in their best condition since recorded figures began, a new government report has revealed. The proportion of schools reported as being in ‘good’ or ‘satisfactory’ condition has increased to 90.2 per cent, up from 61.1 per cent than in April 2007 [after 10 years of Labour/Lib rule]…..there has been a 77 per cent decrease in the number of pupils educated in ‘poor’ or ‘bad’ school buildings.

  1. ”Independent” more often than not translates as Tory ( occasionally LibDumb ) who doesn’t have the brass neck to declare their allegiance openly !

  2. Sounds very much like another classic hatchet job by the BBC of which we are all too familiar with leaving the viewer/listener with the clear blame directed at the nasty uncaring SNP Scottish Gov once again.
