Labour MP and former Modern Studies teacher betrays the aims he once tried to achieve with children

In the Herald today we read:

Scottish Labour’s MPs will not back calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, despite Anas Sarwar’s claim that this is the “only way we can see a safe, secure and free Palestine and a safe, secure and free Israel.”

In a letter to Stephen Flynn, the SNP’s leader at Westminster, Ian Murray and Michael Shanks said they would start “with what is possible” and back their party’s call for a “full, comprehensive and immediate humanitarian pause in the fighting across the whole of Gaza now.”

And in the Telegraph:

Starmer ready to sack Labour shadow ministers who vote for Gaza ceasefire Figures close to Labour leader believe more than 10 of his frontbenchers could end up supporting an amendment

Imagine you were an ambitious young Starmeroid MP like Shanks, hearing the above? A front-bench role so soon?

Before the Rutherglen election, I was heavily criticised for exposing the poor exam results of Shank’s Modern Studies department since he started there.

I did feel a bit ‘dirty’ about that at the time but he tops me now with this decision to stand with Israel’s war crimes.

It all casts serious doubts about his fitness to return to teaching after he is dumped in the next general election. He’d have to commit to this:

Candidates develop a range of research, analytical and evaluating skills, and an understanding of:

 the democratic process and complex political issues

 complex social and economic issues at local, Scottish, national and international levels, and ways of addressing needs and inequalities

 different views about the extent of state involvement in society

 the nature and processes of conflict resolution

 the importance of human and legal rights and responsibilities, and their application in different societies

That’d be a tough one. Kids can be merciless – What did you do when 14 of my relatives died in Gaza?

  1. I can only hope come the next G.E, that voters in his constituency remember him for the spineless creature that he undoubtably is, and dump in favour of an Independence supporting M.P.
