Things may be getting even worse for Labour and even better for SNP as by-election looms

The most recent YouGov poll, for 8-13 September, has been getting media coverage recognising that it’s bad news for Labour but perhaps less so that it might be.

First, for Westminster voting intention, the 11 point gap has been reported as a first ‘double figures’ lead for some time but the significant swing of 7 points, from 4 in August to 11 in September, in the wake of Labour’s bussing of English MPs into Rutherglen and Hamilton West, has not got the attention it deserves.

Has it been counter-productive?

Are our media shielding someone?

Second, the Holyrood constituency voting intention figures have seen little headline coverage. This shows the SNP safe and solid at 41% for a month, as Labour under Anas Sarwar fade. This is after a month of him having to bite his lip in the face of Keir Starmer’s repeated u-turns on the socially progressive policies he must appear to support and which the SNP actually are delivering on.

This is a big slap for Labour and Sarwar.

Note that the above figures are weighted by likelihood to vote as indicated by the respondents. See this:

Traditionally, low turnout has a disproportionate affect on Labour votes – as Labour’s voters tended to be younger and more working class than the that of the Conservatives. Both these groups were, traditionally, less likely to vote

https://theconversation.com/how-important-is-turnout-in-a-uk-election-the-recent-actions-of-the-parties-give-you-a-good-idea-128522

The above does not even take into account the extent to which leaders like Starmer suck the will to vote, to live, dare I say, out of those struggling to get by.

We’ll see on 6 October, in Rutherglen and Hamilton West, if there’s evidence of this.

Finally, this poll like so many others, is still weighted in favour of those who voted No in 2014, 9 years ago. By 480 to 387, nearly 100 more No voters, in a poll of only 1100, might be significantly distorting the result away from the SNP.

We don’t have to wait long to see the proof in the black pudding.

  1. Aye the bussing in of the ‘big guns’ is reminiscent of Glasgow 2014 and the ‘Imperial masters’ moment is it not. (though I believe TRAINS were the favoured mode of transport then)….

One ‘Big gun’ that was bussed up to the colony was one Emily ‘I hate the SNP’ Thornberry.

Here’s a recent tweet by her to Michael Shanks…

““See you tomorrow. You know somehow I’d forgotten how vile these angry Nat Twitter Trolls are”……

Well Emily I think saying you “hate the SNP’ at a public meeting is an angry and vile thing to say about an opposition political party…..and is somewhat Troll like really……indeed she said it TWICE…..pity for her it was filmed but lucky for her the media once again turned a blind eye as apparently they were more interested when Nicola Sturgeon said “she detested the Tories”……..

I hope she didn’t encounter any white vans with Scottish flags hanging from the windows of a house…..as we all remember her infamous tweet when she saw that in England and the backlash that ensued…..she stood down from the shadow cabinet and apologised……obviously with her offensive tweet to Michael Shanks about “angry Nat Twitter Trolls’ she has NOT learned her lesson…..but then it’s only ‘Separatist’ Jocks not her fellow countrymen that she is targeting…..or her English flag …..so it’s okay with her and it seems the media too……to tweet such a rude and nasty thing….

  2. O/T apologies

Ed Davey , on Laura K politics programme today, was told he was “deflecting from the question” and once again he was asked if the long-term goal was to rejoin the EU. He said: “That’s currently not on the table. I’m telling you in our manifesto we are focusing in on what’s got to be done over the next five years to strengthen our economy, to strengthen our security”

If you want to decipher this non response ….then just remember that the Lib Dems are targeting Tory seats….and thus do not want to upset Tory voters by ‘upsetting the apple (Tory) cart’ in dissing a major Tory policy…..as in Brexit….so the party, as in the Lib Dems, who were once promoted as THE “most Remainer party in the UK” have now exposed the fact that they never WERE that at all…..THAT was the SNP (but we knew that anyway did we not as Lib Dems notorious for jumping on bandwagons to look popular….and now they show they also jump OFF bandwagons too)…..plus he also recently stated he had NO plans to go into a coalition with the Labour party…why ?….well once again that would upset his core vote…TORY VOTERS….I mean does anyone not identify and explore WHY the Lib Dems win so many TORY seats via disenchanted (currently that is) Tory voters…..it’s because they, the Lib Dems, are seen, by Tory voters, as another Tory party in all but party name….simples.

So then that is now all THREE Pro UK parties supporting Brexit continuing…..so why then would ANY Scot vote for any of them when we voted against Brexit ???

    1. These three parties have English Leaders with no prospect of any other nationality getting the gig.
No Scot, Welsh or Irish person will or could EVER be Prime Minister of the UK.
All three triangulate the same tranch of voters in England.
      North (sic) and South.
      All are Anglo-British nationalists.
      All are EU separatists.
      All are English imperialists.

    2. “Will they bus in the 7th cavalry to try to save Labours bacon”?

Well they collectively are certainly doing their best to ‘bring home the bacon’ as far as trying to win votes FOR New New Labour in the Rutherglen H & W seat for their English parliament at WM ..

Plus this pattern will continue in subsequent elections in Scotland via them …..because when push comes to shove…..no matter WHICH pro UK party appears to be in with a shot in winning against the SNP (but only according to THEM the media that is via who they think they should promote)…….then THAT is THE party the media will collectively get behind……as the ultimate message and goal is that all roads lead to ‘saving’ their NON union…..currently the Tories are a lost cause so New New Labour must be promoted as supposedly resurging in Scotland…..but the resurgence is mainly via them the media promoting them, hiding their flaws, omitting their transformation as a party adopting tory policies and also them , the media, constantly targeting the SNP and promoting them only in a negative light……..or as we know it….JOB DONE.

      Have a nice day

      🙂

  4. We currently have ( at least ) three Tory parties vying for power in the UK – Blue Tories , Red Tories and the ”nice” Tories ( LibDem ).
None of these parties has a Russel brand chance of winning in Scotland so Scotland is a ”region” they couldn’t give a f*ck about !

  5. Can anyone explain why a UK leader, Keir Starmer, from a political opposition party was allowed to go to Paris and discuss his party’s ‘vision’ for Brexit WITHOUT a Tory UK government chaperone ….and also where there was NO outrage via an assortment of media outlets and also Tory MP’s complaining that this action by Starmer was undermining the TORY UK government’s Brexit…..in the same way when an ACTUAL government, via Scotland, were told that they, as a government, are not ‘allowed’ to go to the EU without a UK government official being present at any meetings a Scottish government minister has in Europe with any politician or representative from the EU….and which was also promoted, by media and Tory politicians as them, the Scottish government, seeking to undermine the TORY UK government…….which obviously was NOT the case at all but then the UK government KNEW that didn’t they…..they just did and do not want Scotland to be promoted abroad as a separate entity from their Brexit UK….and thus achieve any advantages for Scotland alone…as we must be dragged down with the rest of the UK as far as the UK government is concerned….

Now the same opposition leader, Starmer, is swanning off to New York ” to call for UK clean energy action”…..is that the same “clean energy” he will mainly source from Scotland’s vast capacity and potential ?

Starmer must be VERY confident that nothing will stop his New New Labour party from winning the next GE to be setting out his Labour stall abroad which could also be seen as him counting his chickens BEFORE they have hatched……and currently as a leader of a Pro UK party that is NOT in power at present in the UK….then he is therefore somehow ‘allowed’ to go where he wants in the world and say whatever he wants minus the condemnation from others who are not as reticent with OUR Scottish government doing the same…. all because he is a BRITISH NATIONALIST ……so once again we see that THE ONLY exception to the UK RULES is the SNP as the Scottish government…. as in them seemingly being THE ONLY ones who are restricted and confined by the rules as set down by a hostile and foreign government (the UK one) ……..so tis not a UK Union at all is it …..more a dictatorship via WM and the parties who want to (over) RULE there…..if you are part of THAT club you can do as you wish…anywhere at anytime…or so it seems.
