Actually, it’s probably not just the second brainless headline in a row but I’m not prepared to look any further back than yesterday’s claim that dropping S4 exams would lead to an increase in school violence, from an unattributed failed Lib Dem candidate.
Today, it’s Douglas Ross, possessor of a diploma in unpleasant farming practices, telling us the minimum unit pricing policy (MUP) has failed and that the 2% increase in alcohol deaths is proof of that.
We know for certain that the increase trend in alcohol deaths is largely a consequence of patterns of behaviour triggered by the pandemic measures in 2020 and 2021and is clearly beginning to plateau.
We know pretty much for certain that the MUP is working and that from its implementation in 2017/2018 until the pandemic measures in 2020:
The study estimated a 13.4% reduction in deaths, and a 4.1% reduction in hospital admissions, wholly attributable to alcohol consumption following the implementation of MUP. The study also found that MUP reduced deaths and hospital admissions where alcohol consumption may be one of a range of causative factors.

The media and unionists are almost orgasmic with joy – people dying of excessive booze consumption, still more than a thousand dying from drugs misuse, homelessness increasing.
Context?? He’ll get nae context frae the Scottish media.
Increased performative rage about low emissions zones – we couldnae give a monkey’s if we kill merr people as long as we can drive an park wherever we waant.

“Douglas Ross telling us” ????
Is that the SAME Douglas Ross from the SAME political party that gave us Liz Truss as PM…..SAME PM that did so much damage to the UK economy in such a SHORT period of her SHORT term as PM…..oh well then we better listen to what HE, Ross, has to say…..I mean he and his party are EXPERTS in failure….but also too perhaps in DENIAL as to their own failures….too many to mention.
This is what Scotland has to put up with…lectures from those who can hardly be called EXAMPLES of those, who as political parties, excel in doing their (own) ‘Day Job’…but that alas is the reality for us…..rinse and repeat ( via client media )….a media also known as the unofficial ( not by us…more official really) PR reps of respective Pro UK political parties in and out of Scotland…..

The Tories supported MUP? Labour did not support it.
Are the Tories pleased people are dying? Trying to score point over unfortunate death.
The Scottish SNP Gov has funded addiction policy £250million over five years. That will fund proper rehab services and cut deaths.
The unionist whisky industry fought against MUP. The whisky industry tax evades. Monies which could be used to support and improve the SNHS and rehab services,. No one needs to drink or drug. Addiction problems can be tackled with proper support and abstinence. AA & NA.
The majority of the population do not consume alcohol or drugs. It is a minority born with addiction problems. Genetic but it troubles many. The medical sector are still developing drugs to combat the lack of dopamine in the brain. The reason some people over consume to compensate. The young are seeking help earlier for addiction problems. More likely to be overcome. Leading to a healthier life. Drugs are the scourge of society. Help is needed.
