Labour spouses union accuses Scottish Water of paying CE just over a quarter of England’s water bosses’ average

It’s the GMB, the last fully solid SNP-hating trade union (they like building nuclear weapons), headlined in the Herald again, on behalf of Scottish Labour.

It’s excrement of the male bovine once more.

The actual facts:

There are 11 water boards in England, so on average slightly smaller in terms of population served but much much smaller geographically than Scottish Water.

Scottish Water has maintained 90% of water courses at ‘good or better’ condition. England’s water boards have only managed 10%: https://talkingupscotlandtwo.com/2023/08/13/englands-water-nine-times-more-likely-to-contain-sewage/

The Herald is telling us indignantly that the Scottish Water chief is getting a £50K bonus and earned £300K last year: https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/23728041.scottish-water-accused-50k-salary-rise-new-chief/?ref=ebbn&nid=1388&u=54f15f1382a35160f5f9fbd9de82faff&date=170823

In 2021, the average salary for an English water board CE, was £1.1 million, nearly 4 times that of the Scottish Water board CE: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/uk-water-company-bosses-pay-rise-sewage-clean-it-up-rg88t5kl3#:~:text=The%20average%20remuneration%20for%20executives,paid%20almost%20%C2%A325%20million

Who wrote that mince? Martin Williams! How does he find the time for this too as well as ferries every day? Does the General, Municipal, Boilermakers union want to build the ferries? The SNP would like them to. What’s their beef with the SNP then? They’re married to Labour?

  1. I thought the days of trade union activists using their position to further a political career were over, especially now that the cover story of advancing social justice through the Labour Party has been blown away.

  2. Unions especially their leaders use their time helping senior staff these days rather than the junior members that pay most of the subs these union leaders think we are daft , they are in cahoots with the senior management guaranteed a promotion or two and a few days a week off to do “ union business “ in exchange for this kind of dross from them they also like to discourage strikes and work to rule promising discussions and a “ best deal”.
