Exam pass rates not weaponised by politicians in England

On 8 August as the Scottish Higher exam results came in, BBC Scotland, in a report of 1 011 words, found room for these 88:

Scottish Conservatives MSP Liam Kerr said this should be “a source of shame” for ministers.

“Pupils from the most disadvantaged backgrounds have been let down year after year by the SNP,” he said.

Scottish Labour education spokesperson Pam Duncan-Glancy also accused the Scottish government of failing to close the attainment gap.

“The young people of Scotland deserve better than SNP failure,” she added.

Education Secretary Jenny Gilruth said the gap in attainment levels between the least and most deprived areas was still narrower than it was in 2019.

Today in GCSE passes fall to pre-Covid levels as England sees steepest drop, a 3 000 plus word report, by BBC UK, there’s not a peep from any politician of any kind and no blame attached the UK Government for the shocking disadvantaging of English students.

  1. Another example of colonialist behaviour akin to the era of the Raj whereby India was described as an impoverished state to dishearten the population; to show how the British Empire was keeping it afloat while all the while raping it of it’s wealth.
Odd then that now, as an independent nation, it has become a success in space exploration🤔 ergo a nation doing well.
Keep telling the Scots that it’s education, health and economy is shit (GERS) and the fallacy of the broad shoulders of the UK goes on.

    1. And it is Scots like Mr Kerr, Ms Duncan-Glancy, and their party colleagues at Holyrood, and the British/Scots employed by BBC Scotland/STV and the press who do the ‘weaponisation’.

As in the EXCEPTIONS to THE rules as per UK politics…..as in only those who do NOT support THE Jack (flag) are then those considered as THE ones that others must always attack……rinse and repeat ……just as well social media does the job others fail to do….or rather that they do NOT WANT to do…..in exposing who it REALLY is within the UK who is unable to do the ‘Day Job’…..as a government.

One reason being their “obsession” with their fake Union….if they spent less time, money and effort on that and focused and prioritised instead on more serious issues in their UK then perhaps (though I doubt it) the UK economy might not be in the mess it is in…..so on THAT I agree with Douglas Ross…though his perspective and accusations in “failing to do the day job” are focused more on those ones, who as a government, are the ones who are actually blameless for the mess the UK is in (as in the SNP)….and thus their “focusing” and “prioritising” upon independence is ironically the ONLY way for them to really do their “day job” in trying to get us, Scotland, out of the mess we are all currently suffering and having to endure by being in Douglas Ross’s UK….simples

  3. Always the same , the negative onslaught from Unionist politians is relentless if it has anything to do with SNP .The problem is the MSM , they have the platforms to spread the vile , tv , newspapers, radio etc . , get your news from other sources to get the truth !

    1. Indeed John…the POWER of the Press is one that works VERY hard to ensure that they , as a source of (fake) news , do MORE to INFLUENCE opinions than actually REFLECT them…though televised media does it’s bit too….hence why I and others give them all a VERY wide berth….as far as sourcing news is concerned…..

Thank God for sites such as this….as without them we would all be bereft of what the actual TRUTH is….within their UK…….hence why sites like this are always a target for the REAL….. DIS and MIS information merchants masquerading as OUR media…and too those politicians …in Title ONLY…who masquerade as those who pretend they work for us….but via past, present and current evidence produced are clearly ONLY working for themselves and their own selfish interests conducted within their own respective political parties….also known as careerists….as opposed to them having a true ‘calling’ to enter politics….as if.

  4. The pass rate was manipulated to go back to normal? To pre Covid proportional percentage level. Covid put pass rates % up to alleviate difficulties with study. The levels have been manipulated back to ‘normal’.

Only 1/3 of pupils access university study straight from school. 25% mature students – life long learning. 25% of students (over 21) go back to study. There is no attainment gap including mature students numbers. Scotland has the highest number at university in the world. 15 universities 5.4million population. 7% EU students. Down from 15%. Brexit. Foreign students paying the full cost. The highest number (pro rata) in the world. Next is Canada 56%. US 45%.

Scotland has colleges and apprenticeships. Trades people can earn an adequate remuneration. Nursing degrees and other healthcare courses. Teaching degrees. Teacher have higher qualifications and higher remuneration than elsewhere. Scotland the first country to have tertiary education. (14). Based on the ability to learn not the ability to pay. Private schools are selective. Higher pass rate based on selection. Not comprehensive inclusive.

  5. and yet in England the exam pass rate is 30%+ lower in the North East, than in more wealthy London.

In England London produced the highest amount of students achieving grade A/7 and above at 25.2% and the north east saw the least with 16.7%.

    1. Different education system.

Scotland guaranteed separate Church and education system under the terms of the Agreement of 1707. Church education. Funded by the Community. A tithe to the church. Redistribution by the community. Education and welfare. A fairer society. 1948 Education Act. More followed. Comprehensive Education. Not selection. More equal for all. 10% of people went to university. Now 50%+ go to university. Colleges and apprenticeships. Advancement more open to all. Life long learning.

Scotland land of discovery and invention. – Chinese. TV, radio, telecommunication led on to the internet. Scottish invention changed the world. Shaped the modern world. One of the first countries to have tertiary education (14). Based in ability. Not the ability to pay.

  6. Private schools select pupils who are more likely to have higher grades. Tested.

25% of private school pupils are claimed to be from average/lower income households. Free bursaries. Competition. Shared facilities. The excuse for lower rates and reduced taxes. Statistically correct? Doubt it.

Oxford and Cambridge are funded 20 to 1 of all other universities. Selective competition. Not equal or fair? Privilege. The graduates ruin the economy and the world. Many of them are not fit or capable. Promoted above their capabilities.

  7. The Tories (ConDem) cut education funding £6Billion a year from 2015 to 2020. Did not increase it. £30Billion. The Scottish Gov has to mitigate the cuts. Based on the ability to learn, not the ability to pay. Clegg breaking electoral promises. Now EU Rep of tax evading Facebook. Making £Million.

In the South people saddled with debt. Half of which will never be paid back. Massive loan books being bought and sold, controlled by Westminster Gov. £87Billion. Half of which will be written off.

UK Gov whole accounts 2020/21. July 2023. On the internet.

Westminster Gov borrowing and spending what it likes in the rest of the UK. Scotland has to make £Billions of loan repayments on monies not borrowed or spent in Scotland. London S/E congested and over crowded. Scotland low population density. The Clearances etc. Westminster Gov poor, bad policies and decisions. Taking Scotland’s resources and revenues and funding London S/E. Breaking International Law. Keeping it secret under the Official Secrets Act. The Barnett Formula. Illegal wars, financial fraud and tax evasion. Brexit losing Scotland £Billions.

Vote for Independence. Take another to vote for Independence Parties. GE coming soon. Use it or lose it.

    1. Well spotted and noted Alex….

Levelling up….a poor TORY exercise to con voters into thinking that what they LOST via Brexit, via funding, would be replaced by a (not fit for purpose) funding system that would turn out to NOT match the funding they once had, in their areas, via the EU….

Alas it turned out to be yet another TORY failure (Lie)….and a sleekit TORY excuse to give EXTRA funding to some of those TORY friendly areas , where in many instances , additional funding was most definitely …surplus to REQUIREMENT.

The broken TORY Brexit pledge that, post Brexit, they as a Tory government, would MATCH funding to areas comparative to the funding they, as areas, received via EU funding fell very quickly by the wayside….another TORY Brexit LIE….as for Scotland well our needs via the so called levelling up fund…as per the TORY UK government ….was NOT met…..or indeed matched by what WE lost with Brexit……and who I wonder within the UK got the majority of these funds…. as in what nation ?……no guesses who….same one that always gets the most…as in those who DECIDE, via their larger population, who is to rule at WM in GE’s….clue…not us in Scotland, Wales or indeed NI….
