From the Scottish Government today:
In 2013-14 when my government began its concerted programme of work on addressing the lack of women’s representation on public boards, the percentage of women Non-Executive board members of Regulated boards was 36%, at 31 December 2014. This has increased to an overall figure of 52% in 2020-21, as of 30 April 2021.
Where listed public authorities gave information, they reported that 102 appointments of Non-Executive members were made during the period covered by their reports. Of these, 93 appointments, or 91% of appointments were of women.
Regulated Boards – 48 Boards (68%) met the Gender representation objective and 22 did not.
Unregulated Boards – 30 Boards (53%) met the Gender representation objective and 22 did not.
NHS Regional Health Boards and other Health Related Boards – 17 Boards (74%) met the Gender representation objective and 6 did not.
Colleges – 17 Boards (63%) met the Gender representation objective, 6 did not and data is not held for 4 Boards.
Universities – 8 Universities (44%) met the Gender representation objective, 9 did not and data isn’t held for 1 University.

So what are the overall figures , to me that is what is most important , total men in position and total women in position and the percentages of that.

You know I am old enough to remember that once there was a time when political parties were accused, in not having enough women as candidates to represent their respective parties in elections , as being the parties who were NOT representative of all of the electorate.
However I am also now fully aware that should the SNP be promoting this and seek to address it….. so then it will somehow be used against them….because that is the politics that SOME parties (Pro UK ones) are choosing to adopt in order to sway (con) voters to gain an undeserved political advantage….and that message is largely relayed via their client media.
As a woman I like to think that issues unique to my sex are ones that female politicians and too those in charge of public bodies are more aware of and thus they , as females, will probably be the ones who seek to address these issues…..though in fairness I accept that there must be a balance in male representation also…..and ultimately the best candidates are those who at least are willing to listen to everyone and then, if necessary, address those concerns and issues that have been raised and considered significant and at times life changing for whoever raises them……
However female leaders and too female politicians (and those in positions of power) are at times judged, not by their merit or by their political or otherwise contributions, but alas in how they dress….not by the public…but by the media…..who trivialise and downplay their position and contributions in politics and public life as if somehow they way they dress reflects who they are as a politician or high profile person and that in turn is to be seen in a negative light and too as a supposed reflection on their ability to do a good job as a politician or one in a high profile position…..the current (though many on social media commented on this first before the MSM) laughter at ‘SHORT TROOSERS SUNAK’ funnily enough to me represents how he and his party deal with issues within the UK….i.e. ‘short’ term solutions that pander to the ‘small’ minded and also generate profit for a ‘small’ minority within their UK……so we may laugh at him Sunak but tis he and they, his party, who laugh at us as they rob us blind while simultanously are trying to obscure their corruption and incompetence…..
It is essential that those elected in governing bodies should be representative of all within society so that all matters that are important are then represented by those respective individuals who can then empathise and also relate to those issues and obstacles we individually face because of who we are and what we see as important and thus needs their attention…..
I can assure you that no matter whether the SNP are keen to seek to ‘address the lack of women on public boards’ that someone…..somewhere…will present this as #SNPBAD ……as that is THE rinse and repeat formula that must be adhered to with the ultimate goal to STOP independence…..
Getting pretty sick of it all now…..perhaps tis time for REAL “Change” and a REAL “Fresh start”…..say like us becoming an independent country where we can then try to be the kind of country whose politicians and other high profile people reflect and represent us and who we want them to be…and for our country to be seen as one who is progressive and fair…….and actually is…..won’t get that in their UK.
