Major A&E performance improvements as demand surges concealed

As the weekly A&E waiting times continue to disappoint the opposition parties by coming in at around 70% seen within 4 hours, Scotland’s emergency departments have continued to improve monthly waiting times despite surging demand.

In May 2023 (latest monthly data), 67.2% were seen within 4 hours, up steadily from 58.3% in December 2022, an improvement of 15.3%.

At the same time, demand in the form of attendances had surged from a low point in February 2023 of 110 999, to 138 467 in May 2023, an increase of 25%.
