Lib Dems typically late as CalMac hits 100% on time and in safety

Admission – It was really 99.8% but the 0.2% represents the only 1 out of 523 sailings cancelled yesterday, on a busy Saturday.

It was from Ardrossan to Campbelltown, on the mainland.

You can drive from Campbelltown, round to Glasgow quicker, in 3 hours as opposed to the 2 hours 36 min ferry time to Ardrossan, plus another 50m minute drive.

It was also 100% on the Friday and the seasonal average is 95.4% on time. https://www.calmac.co.uk/calmac-performance-data-browser

How are things in Dover? Average delays longer than many CalMac crossing times.

And in affluent British Columbia?

After cancelling multiple sailings between Metro Vancouver and Victoria Wednesday due to ongoing mechanical issues with one of its vessels, BC Ferries says the Coastal Celebration will be out of service until late next week. As a result, BC Ferries says there will be eight fewer sailings between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay per day beginning Thursday. The news came hours after BC Ferries cancelled afternoon and evening sailings along the same route Wednesday.

How about the Lazarus Island ferry in also affluent Singapore? Sunk 5 days ago. No passengers on board.

Thailand’s Samui ferry a few weeks ago? Don’t ask.

Actually, that reminds me, what is the reason for most CalMac ferry cancellations?

From CalMac in the Herald in September 2022:

“However, the vast majority of cancellations or disruption is due to poor weather, which is out with our control. The start of 2022 saw unprecedented and severe weather conditions, including three named storms, which meant that sailings were affected over several weeks.

So, the Lib Dems want CalMac to compensate folk for looking after them properly? That Alex Cole-Hamilton is tough!

  1. Lib-Dems referring to anyone else’s cancellations or late arrivals should remember “Go back to your constituencies and prepare for government….

  2. Alas the Dumbs have been taken by “Scotlands” colonial mejah as page-filling junior reporters.
Tintin without a dug, or a clue.

“Whatever shall I write Mr Editor, sir”? ( blush, fart).

  3. Slightly off-topic but showing how Norway deals with ferries and excess electricity production: An in-law is just back from a holiday visit to friends on the Lofoten Islands. The ferry trip from the mainland is 5.5 hours, so roughly the same as Oban to Barra. The big difference is that Oban to Barra return will cost you £31.80 per passenger and £148.60 for a car, whereas in Norway there is no charge as the government views the island ferry services as essential transport which the keep the island communities served and populated.

While my in-law was there they had a “free-electricity day” where power is gratis as they produce more electricity from renewable sources than they can consume or store. Compare with the Scottish Isles e.g. Orney and Shetland are charged the highest transmission charges in Europe because they are furthest away from London, yet they’re producing huge amounts of power from renewables.

  4. Lib Dems…the party people vote for when they cannot bring themselves to vote either Tory or Labour….while knowing full well that they, the Lib Dems, will never have sufficient elected number of MP’s to ever form a UK government independently…..

They are also the protest vote party for disenchanted Tory voters….who lend them their vote until the Tory party become (again) what they, as Tory voters, want and expect them to be…..says a lot that they, as voters , first choice is the Lib Dem party when they decide to NOT vote for their usual preferred party as in the Tories…as in says a lot about who and what these Tory voters think the Lib Dems actually represent……that is a different version of the Tory party in all but party name….and too very much a party FOR those voters who are Tories at heart….

#AskAlex how many seats they have at Holyrood….as in not enough to be even considered a party….yet the media seem to give him a platform intermittently (too often) I suspect that has more to do with WHO he usually targets politically….as opposed to his (lack of) political acumen….

It’s getting harder now to decide who you hate most between the various BritNat parties as everything they all say and do seems to constantly anger you, frustrate you, annoy you and thus repel you…..so I won’t have a favourite…I’ll just hate them all.
