Cancellations: British Columbia Ferries lose 1 163 NIL to CalMac

In 2020 (latest figures) Canadian ferry service, BC Ferries cancelled 1 163 sailings due to staff shortages. The corporation can’t attract workers because it’s not providing fair pay and security.

There are no recorded incidents of a CalMac sailing cancelled due to staff shortages.

They were the first transport operator to do so and, in November 2022:

Finally, privately-owned P&O is “exploiting loopholes in the minimum wage legislation to pay replacement agency worker crew as little as £5.15 per hour. And a failure to comply with international health and safety standards, jeopardising the safety of seafarers, passengers and the maritime industry as a whole.”
