Good Mourning Scotland and the Herald of Free Markets sail for the isles on a day of 98% reliability and 100% safety

As the BBC Good Mourning Scotland team and the Herald launch a combined beach assault on the SNP Government’s reputation, the latter features a Uist butcher to damn them on the basis of the loss of their direct ferry from Oban.

What do you think the folk of North Uist do much of the time? Fishing? Sheep and cattle farming? Does the local butcher need any outside supplies? Unless it’s really cheap stuff from the latest Tory Oz/NZ trade deal?

Yesterday, as for some time now, the Oban to Lochboisdale sailings, one each day each way, were cancelled. There are two other crossings to North Uist.

The Ardrossan to Campbelltown, one a day, sailing was also cancelled. Campbelltown is on the mainland.

The Wemyss Bay to Rothesay crossing had 4 out of 30 cancelled yesterday.

Finally the Tobermory (Mull) to Kilchoan crossing had 2 out of 14 cancelled. The main Oban to Mull (Craignure) crossing has all 21 on time. Kilchoan’s population is 150.

Overall, CalMac had another 517 sailings to more than 30 locations, on time, giving 98.1% reliability.

Brittany Ferries did have all 6 of their sailings on time but 1 of the 6 is cancelled for next Tuesday.

  1. There is no problem with ferries to the Scottish isles , the fact is if you choose to live in a remote place your travelling will be different to living in a town or city .

  2. Some people on Uist are doing a good job of talking down their businesses. The impression all this furore over one route gives is that there is no alternative routes when in fact there are at least 2. This from the CalMac web site:
“”27 May – 30 June 2023 – Due to issues elsewhere in the network all sailings on the Mallaig – Lochboisdale service are cancelled until Friday 30 June. The Uists can also be accessed by travelling on the Uig – Lochmaddy service and the Oban – Castlebay (Barra) / Barra – Eriskay services. Please see service status page for details of additional sailings on our other routes travelling to the Uists during this period. “”

  3. The weekly Oban Times editorial on the devastation visited on the town from fresh Macleans sandwiches suddenly becoming unavailable should make interesting comparison…

This story perfectly examples the circus act Scotland’s media has become, the Tory propaganda machine creates a story via HMS James Cook from nothing particularly out of the ordinary, and STV feels obliged to follow as it’s “news”.

For how many years before this propaganda campaign has “shit happened” with a ferry and there was ZERO interest from the media ?
    20, 30..50 years ?
