“Officials say that they do have plans for how to transport this vaccine across the country, but concede it is easier to bring people to the vaccine than to transport it to people.”
A challenge indeed when you think of (in particular) the Highlands & Islands. But seems to forget one pretty important point contained within a graphic on the very same page…
I’m pretty sure I am correct in saying we have fridges, and refrigerated transport in Scotland, right?

There is apparently a limit to the number of times the vaccine can be moved before it becomes unstable. Four times is the number I have seen reported. If this is the case then there are likely to be logistical problems in getting it to individual locations.

Helium, I believe, is often used for keeping such low temperatures – unfortunately it has become relatively rare and expensive, so storing is not an easy task. It has been a few years since I was keeping up to date with low temperature stuff (superconductors, MRI scanning, are some uses of it), so things could have moved on since then. It’s not like sticking it in a fridge anyway – at minus 70 deg C, it’s a logistical nightmare.
Also, they are embarking on a massive programme of inoculation, on something that might only be effective for 3-6 months at a time (I’ve still to check out the detail though), to get it done, you dont want any wastage – it’s probably costing us a fortune too – and to get through thousands of people in a few days,,, ugh, good luck!

Helium, yes I read that they are hoping to extract (god knows how) some of that from the moon! China is up there right now as we speak…digging.
I feel sorry for the moon. Humans eh, weird beings.

Oho, thanks ArtyHetty, yes a good ‘resource’ that belongs to everyone,,, and well, if the Chinese have got out there first. That’s the thing about Helium, it should be around in abundance, but there are shortages – I have no idea how it’s extracted either – and if China can extract it on an industrial scale, they will control that market. It’s huge, the market for Helium, and they’ll probably find its worth the expense of going to the moon to dig.

I wonder if the EngGov will claim there is a problem getting the vax to Scotland…or, say ‘OKayyyy Nicky pet, if you want to save lives like you say you do, (chuckle) put that notion of ‘indy’ away for good and you can have some vax, cappiche?
I am in a funny mood as well today, must be something in the air lol!
