Gordon Brewer offers us more guff on Scottish education

Brewer’s teacher, back in 1947, teaching the importance of always appearing weary, favouring the establishment and remembering how much we owe the Treasury.

Off we go with Gordon Brewer, drooping in his seat to tell us

‘Once the envy of the world, what went wrong with Scottish education and why is it proving so hard to fix?’

John Swinney, sensibly, refused to attend so they had the dread Tory adviser, proud regressive, times tables obsessive, Stephen Curran, on to tell us Scotland’s curriculum was too progressive based largely on the Pisa scores used by no serious academics.

Curran is a nobody in academic circles. He has done no research, has clearly read little research and his ideological biases, essentially ‘back to basics’, are about as useful in the 21st Century as they were in the 20th.

Then we got an SNP representative bravely trying to tell us the truth but shouted down by Brewer using ‘evidence’ already demolished here, by a professor of bean-counting:

Bean-counter uses widely rejected Pisa data to attack SNP education policy again

I didn’t hang around to listen to the two dimwits put up by Labour and the Tories because BBC Scotland had done the damage to the reputation of Scottish education in the first few minutes. Luckily few watch this.

Looking back to the outrageous lie that opened this farcical pretence, I won’t lay out all the contradictory evidence but merely remind you of the many posts here telling the truth about Scottish education. You can click on and read again if you’ve forgotten or if the title is isn’t enough:

  1. That was a whole program of anti SNP Government and why is it that the same two journalists are so often on at the end still slagging off the SNP.
No mention of the Davidson and we have Andrew Kerr defending her instead of door stepping her like the way they would have done with SNP MSPs.

  2. It is an out and out British propaganda program .
Where was Rennie , did Brewer not invite him on , he is more topical at the moment with the Steele scandal. Education has been done to death, no wonder Swinney didn’t come on , Brewer was looking to give him a trumped up hammering , John burst his bubble ! .

  3. Firstly a wise move by John Swinney avoiding the usual Hatchet Job by BBC Scotland,
The usual flurry of mostly meaningless statistics pounced on by political hyenas with a obvious Agenda ,
The basic point of this SNP bad exercise is drip drip ,Scotlands rubbish and it’s the SNPs fault ,
The elephant in the room is Scottish voters wouldn’t trust these lying Unionist bar stewards as far as they could toss them. If they did they would vote for them,do they ? Aye do they f/k sorry about the language.
Why oh Why do BBC Scotland keep dragging out the same people supposedly representing the print media it’s getting pretty bloody boring we could almost present their rehearsed lines word for word.
