Think about this. Those supposed social democrats, allegedly champions of a fairer society with a strong NHS and universal human rights are prepared here to encourage you and their admittedly few followers to read the ideas of Stephen Daisley in the Spectator, Boris Johnson’s natural home in journalism.
This is a plan to neuter the Scottish Parliament and, in so doing they hope, to nip the SNP and Yes surge in the bud. It won’t work, I know, but it’s a shameful and revealing move by the Fabians.
I’m reminded of how, in the Spanish Civil War, Stalin’s communists enabled the fascist victory by turning on the anarchists, preferring that to any challenge to their authority within the left movement.
Readers may remember Daisley. Here’s one of his earlier pieces:

We remember when last year another great numpty of the Scottish unionist press, David Torrance, concocted his “Ulsterisation of Scotland.” Dragging the bitter feuds of old religious sectarianism and bigotry into the Scottish argument is nothing new. You Catholics, he explains, don’t understand your own religion, before going on to describe how the Catholics of Scotland should get back in their little box – just like “Mass-going, Celtic-daft Jim Murphy” – and start doing what their Church tells them to do. The Catholic Church, according to this nugget, is under threat from rampant Scottish nationalism; the cult of Nicola Sturgeon challenges the authority of the Pope and the dogma of the SNP undermines the teaching authority of the Church of Rome.

The unholy alliances to undermine the SNP are becoming more common. Private care home owners, Tory donors, the GMB and Scottish Labour should make uncomfortable bedfellows but we have seen them combine to attack the SNP.

I read the Stephen Daisley version about 10 days ago, and like a lot of his stuff, its off the wall looney-tunes.
I read a version on the Scottish Fabian site the other night, and its pure Franco era subjugation. No democrat could support this and certainly no Scot would sit still for their country being placed under the Westminster jackboot with no democratic route out.
Not sure if Daisley recognised N Ireland has an constitutional get-out, but the Fabian version did, and the new Act of Union did not cover them.
This is the thing–N Ireland has an out because it has resorted, and would resort again, to political violence to achieve its aims. If Scotland gets handcuffed into a situation where it cannot have a reasonable democratic prospect of choosing our own future, then like every other colony, we are looking at justifiable unconstitutional action for our national liberation.
I doubt this will have time to become law before Indyref2 is an issue again, and I doubt even a Boris Johnson, worked from the back by Gove and Cummings, would be a party to it. But…….you never know.
My prediction?
The SNP win big in 2021, not as big as predicted because the media are already showing their Unionist teeth, but still a majority. The UK will be in an economic hole, with high unemployment and Brexit driving the population deeper into penury.
There are rumblings in the right-wing press about Boris right now—- he is not ( and never has been) as popular in the Tory party as he is in English society. I think he will go, he is no Churchill and lacks the stomach for a fight.
Gove (in cahoots with Cummings) will step in, a much more devious and slippery figure. He will have an offer for Scotland, but it will be in the nature of a Trojan Horse. If his “offer” is spurned, then the new Act of Union could be put in play.
Boris quitting and the succession might take a while, but we have to have Indyref2, section 30 or not, get it done and be ready for the divvying-up talks by then.
For the sake of decent people in England, as well as our own.

I just don’t get how thr can be any ‘constitutional reform’ at all Britland ie UK has NO written constitution ie no real constitution in law!
